Default Where to donate old clothing? Consignment?

My wife and I have a few big boxes of old clothing that we don't wear anymore... most of it is in excellent condition, with a bunch of name brand stuff (i.e. Gap, Nike) that just doesn't fit anymore. Rather than collect dust in our basement, I figure someone out there could use them.

1. Where would be a good place to donate old but still very useable clothing? I was thinking the Salvation Army, but does it just get resold in their thrift stores? What about the Drop In Centre?

2. Anyone have any experience selling clothing at a consignment store? We've got a couple of nicer pieces that would probably be worth some $$$; I originally wanted to try selling them on eBay, but it was more of a hassle than it was worth and I don't have the time these days.

Thanks

Some get sold in the thrift store -- where the money is used for their causes -- or donated to needy persons through their shelter system.

I'd drop the clothes off at the Mustard Seed or Drop in Centre. I hear the clothes you give them go directly to the users of those 2 facilities.

For really nice quality consignment womens clothing there is a place in Willowpark Village, but they have to be in good condition and a good label. I haven't sold there before, but I have bought some very nice stuff. For designer clothing there is a place on 17th in the Ethos building that sell Versace and labels like that, as for mens I don't know, but there are a ton of consignment stores for women's clothing. Another place is Vespuci on 58th ave, just down from Chinook. It's a HUGE consignment store. I have found everything from Gucci to Laura there..a real wide range.
