Default Best way to clean hockey equipment

Any ideas of the best way to clean hockey equipment? I have heard that the dishwasher (no soap) works pretty well but I have also read some negatives of doing this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take it to Max Bell and get it cleaned. I think it's about $30. A buddy on my hockey team swears by throwing it in his washing machine and air drying it. Seems to work for him.

Doesn't the Olympic Oval have a cleaning service as well... I thought I remember seeing it there. If so that is definitely closer for me.

I use the car wash. The one with the high pressure gun, not the automated one. You can use the soap wash, then rinse the hell out of it. Put it in the sun to dry and it'll smell like new.

Just stay away from the turtle wax.

Keep it out of the diswasher. I made that mistake once and all the nylon and leather parts got sort of funked up.

A lot of sports stores have a device that looks like a big oven that you put your gear in for 15 min. and it disinfects it all. Look into that.

Its funny I see this thread right after getting an email from my buddy who just came back from a hockey tourney in Vegas. I guess it hit 46 degrees C! Anyway, they figured out that they could dry their gear in about a minute by laying it on the pavement, but then later discovered that at that temperature (and I quote) "...it doesn't dry, it sears! And it sears all the stink in too! I don't think we're getting our damage deposit back for the rental van..."

Lots of drycleaners are now offering sports gear cleaning. I know the one in Lake Mackenzie (strip mall does)

Yeah, I have also heard those sport wash machine's are the way to go. If you play in the NCHL here in Calgary, there's a company that owns one of those machines, and they include pick up and drop off from your house in their price, and give (I believe) a 20% discount to NCHL members.

Myself, I usually just crack my bag open a little bit, if I even take my bag out of my trunk before my next game, so I'm probably not the guy to be talking to about cleaning equipment.
