Default Ric Flair Retires

Just for any wrestling fans out there, Ric Flair, arguably the greatest wrestler in the history of professional wrestling, officially retired today after an illustrious 36 year career. They had a tribute to him on RAW tonight, I had to catch it because I grew up watching the guy dominate the old NWA, WCW, NJPW, and WWE. Easily the most entertaining wrestler over the last three decades.

I don't think anyone is ever going to replace the "Nature Boy."

This is about 20 years overdue isn't it? How old is this guy now, anyways?

Sweet. So he'll be out of the squared circle for about eight months before he unretires and faces Hulk Hogan at SummerSlam

No kidding. I haven't watched wrestling in damn near a decade. He was pretty much unwatchable back then. Still good on the mic, but wrestling is a young man's venture.

Dude was old, fat and flabby ten years ago when I gave up on the "sport". How desperate for money was he to stay in it another decade?

Actually he's almost 60, but could still put on an entertaining match right up until the end.

It wasn't so much his in-ring talent, as much as it was his delivery to the fans. At least in my opinion.

how do you dominate in a fake sport? That's like saying the Harlem Globetrotters are a dominant basketball team

How did you manage to do this when he never really dominated there and, as far as I know, they never broadcasted shows in North America?

To be fair, he's 59. And if you're gonna go out, I can't think of a better way to go out than the way he did last night.

WCW Worldwide was a popular show in the early 90's, among other sources. He had some epic battles with Sting, the Great Muta, Tatsumi Fujinami, Masa Chono, and others.

Specifically, my favorite was his match in the 1995 G1 Climax Tournament, where he squared off against Masa Chono.

Did he not lose the only match he had there. NWA reconized the victory and Fujinami became the new NWA champion but WCW didn't reconize it cause he backdropped Flair over he top rope wich was not aloud in WCW at the time, so they still reconized Flair as the WCW champion? The later had a match in the USA and Flair was victorious to regain the NWA title.

I do have to agree that he could still put on a great match. Something Hogan will never be able to do when he's 58, that's for sure.

I was going to say this should belong in the Other Sports thread

But I recalled that the WWE or WWF or whatever it is the furthest thing from a sport

Here to hoping the entire pathetic joke decides to retire

Watched Flair's final match last night, and was moved to tears. Just an awesome, awesome way to go out. To put things in perspective, Ric Flair's first televised match was in 1976 at Madison Square Garden. His last was 2008 at the Citrus Bowl.

"My gameplan? To be The Man....woooooooooo!"

i don't see how anyone can support an organization that encourages it's employees to inject themselves with so many steroids that they either die at a young age or snap and pull a Benoit. sad that there are still kids out there that look up to these idiots

Are you talking MLB or the NFL?
