My only issue with the picture is the sunset(or sunrise). From other images I have seen of tornadoes there is not very much sunlight. It is a sunset(or sunrise) though so it could be coming in from under the clouds.

I'm pretty sure that is the glow off the light on that building, not a sunset.

Umm... that's not a sunset/sunrise - those are streetlights and the light from the shed - I'm pretty sure the pink you're seeing is from the glare of a yardlight.
ETA: Hah - KevanGuy beat me to it.

It could be even mid-day and the surrounding overcast cloud is giving off light and casting it onto the funnel. The t-storm cloud itself looks nice and dark. Combine that with a slightly long exposure and that would give the photo.
Looks 100% real to me. Here's a photo I took that looks slightly less real, but still is.

But look how long the shadows are, the reflection off the street sign and the sun on the silo. Meh, that is just what I saw.

-Long shadows because of the low angle of the street lights... all shadows line up with a light, I don't see any sun.
-Can't proove or disproove the street sign reflection, I don't know what light sources there are behind the camera.
-I don't think that's sun on the silo, if it was, the rest of the structure should be lit up as well. Looks more like again a sodium light mounted low (like a typical farm light)

It looks a little too clean to me.

Uhhh.... what? Hurricane? You might want to post in this thread now http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=59370
Looking at it again, I'm not so sure it's a tornado at that moment... looks more like a funnel cloud or a formation similar to mine. Wish the right half wasn't cut off, that would tell right away.
edit: Well, I might be right, if this guy is who he says he is

I am the Chief Meteorologist at the TV station near where the picture was taken and received the picture directly from Lori. This is an awesome photograph, but it is NOT of a tornado. This is a picture of a mesocyclone and wall cloud. It did have funnels with it at times, but no tornado was ever confirmed with it. It has to touch the ground to be a tornado.
Just wanted to set the record straight as this picture has a lot of incorrect information that has gone along with it on the Internet.

So photo is real, circumstances are not.

Come on Cap'n, you would have done the same to anyone else. That is unless you LIKE your balls broken, you didn't use any smilies so I'm not sure.

beautiful shot but I do question it. In order to get the traffic lights to look like that in a photograph you would need to do a longer exposure (ie. .5 seconds rather than 1/100 of sec). When you do a longer exposure on a camera objects that move become blurry just like the flag in this photo. Now the problem is, the "hurricane" (haha just kidding CaptainCrunch) is very crisp and clear... hard to believe that the flag is blurry but the tornado spinning at a ridiculous speed isn't blurry? However, digital manipulation can work wonders these days.
With that said, I have seen some pretty amazing things happen in photos that technically don't make a lot of sense.

well for you nuckers who have never experienced a tornado it is not rare for a storm to blow in and produce a nader while the sun is still out .... say the sun is setting in the west and the storm hasnt made it that far....
Imagine being closer to a tornado than that and actually being outside in it .... i have been ... its scary as hell
