Coldplay coming to town
Coldplay is launching their new world tour, and they will be stopping to play the Saddledome on July 30th. I'm defintily going to get tickets for this show.
Now I'll leave the rest of this thread open to the insecant Coldplay bashing, because I know you guys didn't get enough in the other three threads from the last month or so.
Actually I'll just get the main points out of the way, so Coldplay fans can discuss the upcoming concert...
-Coldplay sucks
-Coldplay is overrated
-Coldplay is a poor man's radiohead (huh?)
-Their music is too simple, yet their popular, so I'm really jealous and will stop at nothing to let the world know that their music isn't technical enough to earn my respect
-It's too mellow (because all music should be hard)
-They've sold millions of records, but it's not my style of music, and that's BS.
Now back to the upcoming show. This should definitly be a sellout, does anyone know if there are any pre-sales?; because you can't have a modern day concert without every good seat being snapped up a week in advance at some random fan club/radio station presale.

Oh damn. I'll be for sure going to this one! Thanks for the heads up!
I have one of their live DVDs and have downloaded a couple other concerts, and they are definitely an awesome live act.

I have heard the poor-man's Radiohead argument many times, but ironically, when Radiohead first played their song Videotape (which sounded quite a bit different at first), it was slagged off as being a poor-man's Coldplay song. Go figure.
Definitely going to try to get to this concert. I saw them in Edmonton last time they toured around these parts, they put on a great show.
Here's one from the 40 Year Old Virgin: "You know how I know you're gay? You listen to Coldplay."

Big fan of Coldplay, might be worth the road trip. Thanks for the heads up.
If only Jackie J would come to this part of the world.. Vancouver is just to far to drive :/

The same people that think Coldplay sucks probably listen to Buck Cherry.
So happy they're coming...I thought they were skipping Calgary. I'm glad it's not for the Virgin crap concert too.

I wish they were comming in the Fall and not the summer. The new cd is out next month and it doesn't give enough time to get into the music before the concert. Anyways as long as they include fix you and what if and some of the parachute girly music it would still be a great show. You can call it girly music but regardless it is still good music. Their DVD's make me less likely to rush out to see them as I think the DVD's do justice. That is one band that doesn't cut corners on their live perfermances and Chris Martin puts his heart and soul into each and every song. I was surprised at the turn out a when they were here a few years back but this time the Calgary economy will guarantee that this one sells out! Speaking of Radio Head : does anyone remember seeing them at Max Bell? Now that was a show! Also saw the Beastie Boys at Max Bell and between those two shows I am not sure I have seen much better!

I saw the Tea Party at the Max Bell. Beat that.
I will never forgive myself for missing the Radiohead show there. Ever. As it seems they will not play Calgary again it is truly unfortunate I wasn't there (and checking the setlist, which was awesome, makes it even worse). I doubt anyone here would have been to see them when they played Mac Hall even farther back?

Does anyone know when the main act typically takes the stage? I'm flying into Calgary at 8:50 the night of the concert and would love to see Coldplay. According to Ticketmaster the show doesn't start until 8. I'm hoping if there are a couple of opening bands that Coldplay wouldn't take the stage until 9 or 9:30 and I could actually make this concert.

I remeber radiohead at MaxBell, they played Lurgee and Nice Dream, which was a real treat...that was April '98 (the same night the hitmen advanced to the second round upon beating the Broncos)
I also saw radiohead at the old Mac Hall for the bends tour...amazing..that was March '96

I don't like either of those bands, but if given the choice, I would have to pick Coldplay.
I like the name for a band though.

If I recall correctly it was that chump singer FROM I Mother Earth who did the solo thing - Edwin or whoever - opening for the Tea Party. Girlfriend at the time wanted to go so I went...
Nothing on TM about when tix go on sale let alone presales etc. Might have to check the Coldplay site to find this information

Not Mac Hall but I did see them at the Comodore ballroom in Vancouver. Made it up to 2nd from the front row and will never forget how crazy Thom Yorke looks up close. He truly is a magician on the stage and even if he looked crazy everyone was feeling the music! It was an amazing show that they put on! Even to go see them now I don't think I would be as excited as I think I would like to always remember them in Maxbell / Comodore ballroom type venues and I don't think they will ever decline that much....Just a moment in time and glad I was there! Re: Tea Party : that would have been a good show! Was trying to find some Tea Party tune on itunes a few weeks back and no luck....I am sure there are some opinions about itunes on here....

Coldplay are a decent band who are in a tough spot right now...they are built up by the media to be this big name act that has defined an era of music..yet they don't have the talent to actually push any boundaries like a U2 or Radiohead has done. Their best attribute is their simplicity and their melodies, but now they seem to want to push the envelope with some new dynamic...and it isn't working..their last album had some really bad stuff on it (some pretty good songs too), and their new single is atrocious. They are trying to hard to right now, and the music is suffering. But I guess if they continued to make music like thier first 2 albums, people would trash them for repeating themselves. So what do they do? Coldplay are a good band with some good stuff but in my eyes they never should've been lumped in with the cream of the crop bands...because they aren't.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, What?
I wasn't going to respond to this thread since all my feeling were summed up by the OP but this is probably one of the most retared things I have ever heard. I find Coldplay very boring and mediocre and Buck Cherry is terrible, very terrible.
I am just wondering why you say that? There doesn't seem to be any real reason for that connection. Whatever, enjoy your concert, don't forget your turtleneck.
