Icon41 Fish Question

I put a frozen salmon in a pan an dumped a bunch of lemon juice, orange juice, salt and pepper on it yesterday around 1 in the afternoon. I accidentally left it out until now. Would it still be good to eat?

Well, you started with sort of a way to make ceviche but it has not been refrigerated for 24 hours.

Me, chuck it, I would never take a chance of eating that fish now.

Would the size of the salmon matter? Maybe it took a long time to thaw?

But to be safe, maybe serve it with tomatoes...

No. If you left out of the fridge then you're going to have to chuck it.

Just a note on marinating fish...if you want to make ceviche, marinade small cubed pieces over night in lemon or lime juice with some salt & pepper. If you're looking to simply get some acidic flavor then I would suggest that you marinade from thirty minutes to an hour at the most.

Says the resident tomato conspiracy theorist, you're just trying to kill him.

I say, to test if its safe, feed it to your kids, or if you dont have any kids, feed it to your neighbor's kids. Its the canary in the mineshaft theory applied to food.

Besides, they probably have better immune systems being much younger and unassaulted by the likes of drugs and booze.

I'm not saying that you're a meth-addled alcoholic, just that the likelihood of your neighbor's 10 year old being a meth-addled alcoholic is much lower.

Catch and Release.

I wish the heck I could like fish, I just hate the taste of it . . . I wish I could eat one, they look so good . . .

Ok, I'll chuck it. It was one of those frozen salmon fish with the tail on from StuperStore. It was like $4 bucks. There's still a small portion of the entrails hanging out so that will make it easier to chuck it.

Depends how old you are. When I was 20 and living on my own I left a pound of ground beef on the fridge to thaw. I forgot about it until I noticed the blood dripping down the side of the fridge two days later. I cooked the hell out of it and ate. No worries.

Now that I make more then 35 cent above minimum wage I wouldn't even consider eating it. Of course, I wouldn't consider buying regular ground beef anymore either, but that isn't the point.
