Default Volunteering

I am looking into volunteering somewhere this summer and I am having troubles finding places that need someone. I am pretty open to anything (cue hooker's and blow comment ). I only have time for an hour 1-3 times a week. Does anyone have any recommendations of places that are looking for people?

from my understanding the foodbank's always looking for people. Not sure if that fits in with your criteria.

I still have a pretty busy work schedule. Do you think they allow an hour here and there or would it be a full weekday. Why don't I look into it more I suppose...

SPCA is always looking for volunteers. I did it for a while but the new location is almost an hour drive from me, it was a bit too much.

I work at Southland Leisure Centre and we are are always looking for new volunteers. The nice thing is you can choose from the many different programs we run, and it's incredibly flexible.

If you're interested, you could give Ang a call, her number is 648-6554.

I received an e-mail yesterday saying that the Calgary Folk Fest is still looking for volunteers for this year's festival. If you like folk, roots, blues, world music, etc., that's like getting a free pass to the festival. It's maybe not the most altruistic thing to volunteer for, but it does help them stage a good family oriented event, which is always a good thing.

An hour 3 times a week? Become a soccer coach. Its typically about an hour and a half 3 times a week, but its not too much of a stretch.

It is a fair bit of work though.

Damned kids.

Your best bet would be Volunteer Calgary. They maintain a pretty good database of volunteer opportunities in all kinds of non-profit organizations.

I used to volunteer at Meals On Wheels. I drove frozen meals around once a week, it usually took 1-2 hours to do. Delivering frozen food to mainly senior citizens was pretty cool, but sad at the same time. Many of them never get visits from relatives, and you can tell they are lonely. I can't do it anymore due to work, but I am sure they are looking for drivers in Calgary.

not really alot for over the summer, but Scouts Canada is always looking for Volenteers. There are options other than actually being a leader if you want to bring other skills to the table. I would recomend giving the head office in Calgary a call if it interests you.

Canadian blood services. Although I don't remember how many hours they expect. I'm currently volunteering at the glenbow. It's 3 hours a week. They're also very flexible about working it around your schedule.

My backyard is looking pretty scruffy. You can come by for 1 - 3 hours on saturday and start tidying it up? Or if you want to spread it out, Thursday, Friday, Saturday one hour each day

I often think about volunteering. Then I find I can't get my own stuff done... Sigh...
Stupid comments aside, good for you!

The HOspice Society always needs volunteers. I don't know about Calgary, but in Victoria you can even volunteer to drive out of town patients getting treatment places. We had amazing volunteers in Victoria when my Mom was sick, they took us anywhere we needed to go, Walmart, a Dr. Apt. Kudos to you.

I volunteer for FRES. www.ferrets.ca

Work the odd Bingo here and there, 3 hours max. Most of the money raised goes to pay vet bills, you'll be helping little furry animals get operations and medicine!
