Default Game 6 - Riders @ Stampeders

I had to start this game thread early for a couple reasons:

1) I'm really excited for this game
2) There are a couple riderfans in my office and it's bugging the hell out of me
3) I can't wait until Saturday night when all the Rider fans will be crying into their watermelons when the Stamps hand them their first loss of the season.

LETS GET IT ON!

GO STAMPS GO!

Actually as a Rider fan I'm concerned we're going to get pummeled. IIRC we don't fare very well in Calgary (unless it is playoffs) and the injuries will finally catch up with the Riders.

But hey if all the Stamps need to beat the Riders is have only half of our team show up then they got their wish...Riders are all hurt.

And Crandell is starting.

I can't wait either. I'll be on the sidelines before the game, so it'll be awesome taking everything in.

Now, it's time to go make my sign!!

The game is sold out so it means TSN will lift the blackout for those of us unlucky fans who couldn't get a ticket(s) to the game. I've been to a Riders-Stamps game and man those pesky Riders' fans are loud. One other thing that I noticed was the girls seems to be into flashing the boobs. Not that I am complaining since so far I only seen the good looking ones though.

Back to the game.

In for the Stamps are: DB Julian Battle, DB Milton Collins, OL Fabio Filice, LB Matt Grootegoed, DL Juwan Simpson, RB Demetris Summers and LB JoJuan Armour.

Out: DL Marcus Parker (practice roster), WR Chris Jackson(released), DB Calvin Bannister(ankle),OL Derek Armstron(arm), OL Antonio Hall(ankle), DL Pat MacDonald(shoulder), LB Saleem Rasheed(shoulder), LB LaMarcus Rowell(shoulder) and Neil Ternovatsky(hamstrings)

In for the Riders are: OL Chris Best, OL Steven Morley, DL Keith Shologan, R Mike Washington, DB Denetay Heard and QB Chad Friefhauf.

Out: QB Darian Durant(ribs), DL John Chick(knee), R Weston Dressler(hamstring), RB Henry Childs, R Andy Fantuz(leg), R DJ Flick(leg), OL Glenn January(leg), DB James Johnson(concussion), R David McKoy(knee), DL Kyle Mitchell(leg) and DL JImmy Verdon

This is going to be an explosive game and I cannot wait to watch it. Calgary defensive unit was awful last game vs Winnipeg and that will change against the Riders. I can see D blitzing Crandell and Jyles all night and confuse the heck out of them. I have a feeling that Crandell will stay all game due to inconsistency or injury problem. We will a matchup between Dominguez vs Browner. The always dependable RB Wes Cates will have a hard time gaining a lot of yardage on the ground so he might be use more for passing.

On offense, Burris will be so pumped up against the Riders and will use a lot of weapons today. Reynolds will definitely show the league that he is better than Cates or any RB in the league. Nik Lewis will have an awesome game again.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

LOL, love Armour's rant.

That was a bull call to eject him when the incident was obviously accidental.

For those people who thinks refereeing in the CFL, i have to say yes you are correct! What a joke that one of the Stamps got ejected because some incompetent referee doesn't know where to position himself. I totally agree with Armour that there is no reason for him to hit an official early on the game. I can see it somewhere in the second half if the Stamps are getting their butt kicked and if Armour might think the officials are trying to pick on them. The call is a joke and I am sad to say that I might be joining those people who doubted the CFL officials this season. Tom Higgins should review the play and hopefully the official who made the call should get some kind of discipline.

not looking good so far. Both the offense and defense are having a slow start. Burris is getting frustrated for not having enough time to stand in the pocket and throw the ball. Brett Ralph, the usually consistent pass catcher dropped 2 sure catches. Our OLine are less than average so far and DLine with Labinjo moved to MLB are not as good as early in the game before Armour got kicked out. I definitely agreed with one poster before that Labinjo is far better playing the DLine.

Can someone please, please tell Hufnagel or Coach Dickerson that our punt return Howell sucks big time? The Stamps are losing this game so far because Calgary never have a good field position at the beginning of offensive play. Run the ball Howell and pick some spot.

What the F? why did the stamps not challenge that fumble? Even on tsn's crummy replays it didn't look like he had posession. I know it's a booth review at the end of the quarter but you could have threw out the flag to challenge it.

Just once, I'd love to see our DL actually outperform our opponents' DL this season. Actually I'd just like to see them not get totally outperformed by the other DL. I'm not holding my breath...

22-7 Saskatchewan end of the first half. Riders' scored a TD when Crandell passed the ball to Dominguez but immediately dropped the ball and Wes Cates recovered the ball for a TD. I thought the ball would have been ruled incomplete because Dominguez did not even have a step when he dropped the ball. Clearly, he doesn't have the control of the ball. Oh well, another break for Saskatchewan. Riders are very lucky so far and I hope their luck ran out in the second half.

This game is pretty frustrating so far because of so many mistakes the Stamps are making. Most of the Riders' points are after the penalties. The first penalty on Armour, the Stamps could have have the ball but instead trhe officials gave it to Riders because of the penalty. Riders ended up scoring 3 points after. The next scoring points, there was another boneheaded penalty before Riders scored a TD. Another frustrating part are the dropsies by usually sure handed receivers in Ralph(2x), Copeland(2x) and Thelwell(2x). Burris on the other hand are not perfect as well as he threw one deep ball against two defenders which ended up getting intercepted. I am not blaming anyone including Burris but all these penalties and mistakes better not show up in the second half or else we will not win this game.

Here's what I am hoping in the second half, OLine gives Burris more time and room. Ditto for Joffrey Reynolds. Receivers catch the ball and not drop it. Burris bring back his composure because I can see his frustrations early this game. I guess you cannot blame him as he's been hurried and hit a lot of times so far.
On Defense, someone should stop Wes Cates. Rush Crandell more.
Overall, no more dumb penalties and mistakes!!!

So wait, is it 21-7, or 22-7. It would make more sense for it to be 21-7, no?

21-7. The riders are driving again though... so that could change soon.

Wow, i called the last pkay correctly. Punt by Riders and I told my friend, Howell would either let the ball go to the end zone or run it for 2-3 yards. Guess what he ran it for 2 yards I believe. What a joke!! I might as well turn off the TV when Riders punt the ball.

hmmm, only took the stampeders coaching 44 minutes to put together that maybe Sask's defense was vulnerable to the screen.
