Default An Interesting Article for Cubical Dwellers

Thread warning: This article was posted because the thread starter thought it was an interesting article and wanted to share it with others. It was never meant to upset or insult anyone. Please read the quote from the article, if you think it is interesting please continue on to the article or if not move on. If you just read the quote or the title of the thread and get upset at the thread starter then the fault is all your own.

The Moral Life of Cubicals
The Utopian Origins of Dilbert's Workplace
The utopian visions of the cubicle have been crushed by reality. However, while the cubicled office no longer seems brave or new, an aspect of its original moral impulse remains. Indeed, the experiential facts of cubicle life are not so much in contradiction with the ambition to humanize the office as the revelation of the dark side of this effort.

So the quote means that... originally people made cubicles to humanize the workplace, and the article exams it having the opposite effect because people get demoralized by their mundanity?

That's groundbreaking. Why is the writing style so complex?

I couldn't finish reading it. The writer took a boring topic and managed to drone on and on using way too many words to get a fairly simple thought out there.

I thought this was going to be about the study that conclusively showed that people who work in cubicles die before retirement thus effectively making cubicles the modern day equivalent of slavery.

That was a good study....poor office workers gave their lives for that one...

Open office system. No real cubicles.

Maybe this is the reason why.

And I thought this was going to be an artsy-fartsy thread about cubism.
