Ahh, but those single guys have no game (especially in Calgary) so it's a moot point.

Interesting that the second post immediately starts calling out female scientists/engineers as just "looking for single guys". Maybe that attitude is part of what keeps them away?
Aside from the mildly boring jobs, of course.

My wife used to work in the same field I do which is detailing structural steel. She was good at the job and was more than capable, but hated it. Said it was boring and something she didn't enjoy. Now she's a pharmacy technician and likes that much more. Interestingly enough thats an occupation thats probably 85% female. Just like our drafting office has very few female employees. Over the past 10 years, I've seen several of our female employees quit because...they wanted to do something else. So I'd buy that females are avoiding this field because they find the work boring. There are days where I don't blame them, it can be!

Sadly I know plenty of people in engineering that also suck at math.

I was at an Engineering forum a few months back here in Calgary.
Mostly Electrical Types....
It was the biggest collection of short sleeved plaid shirts I had ever seen in my life......

They can stay away. Too much drama, if you ask me.

Notice I'm not using the green font.
The way I see it, it's social conditioning of men and women that's created the gender gap in that field. Men have been encouraged at a young age to be more interested in science and engineering and therefore have developed an interest in it, that's where the problem lies, it's not when they get out of university to find jobs, it's when they enter primary school and girls are taught to play nice with dolls and boys are told to go and play around on the monkey bars. Boys and Girls are treated differently, because of this they grow up with different interests.

I read somewhere before that men make better engineers because the male brain recognizes spatial patterns more easily and can organize space mentally more naturally. Female brains are supposed to be better at multi-tasking though. Women can pay attention to more things at once.
I have a science degree and I remember in university, the girls always seemed more efficient at doing labs. If you had an all male group, things would quickly become chaotic, but if you had a female in the group, everything would go smoothly. The girls always seemed to score higher on the exams.
I always figured more females should be surgeons. They tend to have better fine motor skills, and combine that with the abilities I noted above, I think I'd prefer a female surgeon.
I realize I just stated a bunch of generalizations that are mostly anecdotal, so feel free to pick it apart.
