Just saw it on Sportscentre, the fact he didn't give up on the play he deserved to see that go in.

I don't think he got it off in time, in the slow mo still looks like his hand is on the ball when the lights go on, but amazing shot none the less.
edit: on second thought might have just barely got it off, it sure was close though.
re:edit after starting and stopping it a few times i'm pretty sure there is a frame or 2 where it looks like he didn't get it off in time, but so close i don't know how you can tell watching it

Espn.com webpage has a highlight video on their front page. They have a video that they have paused the action with the ball two inches out of his hands, and the light is not on, and then the next frame the lights come on. He definately got it off before the buzzer.
I thought that at first too, but after watching it a few times he didn't have possession when he took the steps.

No, the ball wasn't in his hands, therefore, no travel. He attempts the shot, its blocked/deflected by the defender, comes back to him, and then he shoots again right away before travelling.
If the ball never left his hands, then, yes, it would be a travel.

If I throw an airball, keep running, and am the guy to catch it without it hitting the ground, that's a travel.
That is what happened here.
The other player touched it which wouldn't happen during an air ball.
IMO It's a good basket because he loses control and then gains it back after the other team touched the ball.

It'd be counted as a blocked shot, so he's allowed to continue as a new play. But if you're talking about the initial shot (that got blocked) then yeah, he traveled hard core.
From the NBA Rule Book:
Quote:
d. A player may dribble a second time [continue play action] if
he lost control of the ball because of:
(1) A field goal attempt at his basket,
provided the ball touches the backboard
or basket ring (2) An opponent touching the ball
(3) A pass or fumble which touches his
backboard, basket ring or is touched by
another player.
he loses control of the ball, then flings his arms as if it were a shot. it most certainly wasn't a shot block or other change of posession that would re-start his steps.

but that wasn't a blocked shot. It never left his hands to be blocked. At best, it was a failed steal attempt, which it wasn't.
It was a travel and the officials didn't have the nuts to call it.
Okay I stopped the video, took a screen shot and enlarged the photo. At this point you can see he has lost control and the other player has touched the ball. You can also tell by the way it changes directions.
- He attempted to take a shot and was fouled.
- When the ball came out of his hands in that attempted shot the other player touches it (as per above)
- He then gains control of the ball for a second time, since it had been touched.
- He then plants one foot, taking no steps and shoots the ball.
Good Basket. Should have gotten three free throws anyways but justice was severed by the miracle shot.
