woman removed from her apt. 35 years after her death
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. What a strange story. Who doesn't notice when you don't see your neighbour for over 3 decades????

she probably would've remained there longer if the others hadn't start their bitching about the ownership of the apartment.
crazy story, so she had no family. friends? like it was asking, who was paying her bills? automatic withdrawls? We get calls from our phone/cable/natural gas companies on different occasions, offering various other services, no company did that for her? What about her mail, didn't the mailman question her box overfilled for years?
Its hard to believe no one would question her disappearance.

Wow.
I don't question the fact that she was all alone. As sad as it is, there are a lot of people in the world who are virtually alone. Of course we don't know any... because they ARE ALONE!
She could have easily been a WW2 orphan.
Honestly though, someone might have killed her and just continued to look after her bills and mail, and whatever. It's also possible that the utilities are paid by committee and the whole building is on one bill.

Here is more on the story:
http://www.javno.com/en/croatia/clanak.php?id=148109
By the sounds of it, people did notice she was missing and contacted the police back in 1991.
I was right though, the utilities are all on one bill.
Some people also claim that she was a schitzophrenic. Others thought that she left and the apartment just remained vacant over the years. They were tired of paying the bills for it and wanted to claim it.
She was also an old lady (84), so it is entirely possible that if she had no children, all of he other living relatives my have been dead. She could have been the last of her line.
List source also says that she was reported missing back it 1966:

Well that's a little on the depressing side. She was only 42 years old when she went "missing".
It mentioned that her apartment at the time was owned by the government. Maybe Tito's functionaries weren't the most fastidious record-keepers and she just slipped through the cracks when the collapse happened. Of course that happened something like 25 or 30 years after her death so, umm, maybe not.
It does seem like some crazy bill-paying scenario though. I've tried to ignore my utility bills before and it didn't go well for more than a couple months, certainly not the 40 years I had hoped for. Even if it was a collective bill for the whole building, if I knew I was paying my neighbour's bills I'd probably go up and say something.
What a scene to see though. That apartment must be like a time capsule. Even the vermin probably weren't interested in hanging out there -- there wasn't anything to eat.

It is very possible.
I think of my Grandmother. She outlived all of her children, siblings, husband, and all other relatives with the exception of my brother, my mother, and myself.
If not for the three of us, when she became ill with Dementia, nobody would have ever known. She's have likely starved to death and nobody would have been the wiser until the collection agencies came calling.

Well the reports are all different... 35, 41 years... last seen in 66 or 67... laying in bed in a sheet, sitting in her armchair...
Get the facts straight before they're reported, please.
