Default Mothers Day Run

Is anyone else cut off by this Mothers Day Run? It goes through the Rideau/Roxboro and Parkhill area south of downtown and is keeping us from going anywhere because the only street out of here is being used for it. We just had to cancel our mothers day brunch reservations (which my mum was pretty cut up about, she'd been looking forward to it) because the police refused to let us through. It seems a bit odd, I mean, would it be that difficult to just hold up the runners for a second and let us drive a block down the street so we can get out? I wonder what they'd do if someone needed to catch a plane or something.

Just seems a bit odd that they wouldn't have some system in place for letting people out. Definitely poor planning on the part of whoever set this up.

Every city in North America has these. and yes holding up the runners is a bad idea.

This run has been going on for decades so they aren't surprising too many people but part of planning these things to have signs up the week before to let everyone in the neighborhood know.

If they didn't have signs they should have.

Also this is a good example of why they made us write current events quizzes in grade 7 social studies.

It's probably a good idea to know what's going on around you.

But I'm sorry to hear you missed brunch. That does indeed suck and I'd be choked about it too.

I don't feel much sympathy for you. It happens every year and I can't remember the last time they changed the route. It's not very hard to leave your car a couple blocks away and walk to it to go for brunch. I'm sure you knew this was happening. Pretty lame to think you should get to stop a bunch of competitive runners because you lack the ability to plan. To the people who are finishing this race in just over 30 minutes it's a big deal to them and they don't want to stop and wait for you, and possibly lose positioning in the race they've been training for all year.

As someone who has ran in this event for the past 3 years:
a)I would be really pissed if I had to stop to let you through! I may not be the best runner in the world, but I'm very competitive with myself...
b)how many threads have been on calgarypuck talking about road closures this weekend??? You must not be a very dedicated calgarypuck reader...Shame on you!!!
c)I think Mother's Day Brunch is over-rated. It's much more healthier to something like: go for a 5 km walk with your mom on a beautiful day like today rather than stuffing your face with sausage, eggs and cheese...

Or you could do what I did, run the 10k and then go stuff your face with sausage, eggs and cheese!

Is there anywhere to check our times on the internet?

I don't think so, I was told they will print the times in the Herald tomorrow.

Herald and the web tomorrow.

In fact if you google your name in a week or two you'll probably find it that way.

There haven't been any signs.

And yes, they've had this run before, but we've always been able to get out. This is the first year where we haven't been able to.

I'm not looking for sympathy, it was just a bit irritating seeing how we've always been able to get out before.

ED: I didn't mean to come off looking like an ass in the original post, obviously they can't ask the runners the stop, its just this has never been a problem before, and it really didn't matter because we just walked down to Wildwood anyway. It just seemed odd because the turnaround point could've been one block down and it wouldn't have been a problem at all, it was just a bit of poor planning I thought.

WCK: And I'm sorry I cam off like a raving biotch...
Times should be in the Herald.
Freakin: I just had cold leftover pizza, no brunch for me (my mom lives in Nanaimo)

Wow. You know if someone moved in within the last 11 months might not know about this. And if there were no signs, how is someone supposed to know?

On the other side, walk somewhere and get a cab.
