Just thought I'd make a quick reminder that today is Cpl Michael Starker's funeral at 2 pm at the Roundup Centre. This is open to the public though priority seating will be given to emergency services, military, family, etc.
Another wonderful, patriotic thing the city has decided to do to honor Starker is have a "route of valour" which will involve people lining the streets and 3000 hand held flags being handed out. The casket will be moved via an ambulance from the Roundup centre, to City Hall, to Queen's Park Cemetary.
As per citybeat, the route is as follows:
Quote:
The march will begin at the Roundup Centre and follow along
3rd Street SE to Macleod Trail, then on to City Hall with a
draped City of Calgary EMS ambulance carrying Michael’s
casket.

Quote:
The route to Queen’s Park Cemetery will follow west on 4
Avenue SE to Centre street, and then Centre street north to
16 Avenue. Calgarians are encouraged to come out and show
their support.
3,000 hand held Canadian flags will be given out to
Calgarians lining the recessional route, in addition to 300
larger 27 X 54 inch flags.

I would love to see the streets lined to honor Michael one more time and to show to Canada that even though we may or may not support the mission, we support the troops and stand behind them. If anything, be advised when leaving downtown this evening that those streets will be blocked.
RIP Michael Starker....you made the country proud.
