Default Starting a new job tomorrow

Tomorrow morning I'm going to be starting a new job. It's been over five years since I've done it. Any chance I'll be able to get some advice? I'm heading into a situation that I know absolutely nothing about, starting a new career that I have absolutely no experience in. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Is this at the Music Factory by any chance?

/90 reference...

Stay under the radar, you don't want big expectations on your first day.

If you don't make someone your bitch before noon, you'll become someone's bitch.

So start a fight as soon as you get there.

If you're at all nervous about any of the technical aspects of your job be sure to grab all the manuals, standards, specifications, etc. you can to take home and read. I'm not saying to read them all tomorrow night but being able to look them over for the first few weeks can be really beneficial. That and like trout said, bring donuts. First impressions and junk.

Just make sure you work safe and don't assume anything. There are lots of ways to get hurt in a machine shop if you don't know what to look for. Get some steel toe boots. Make sure you aren't wearing jewelery or loose clothing. And don't be afraid to hit the big red button if something looks wrong. Its way easier to reset a machine from an emergency stop then it is to fix whatever went wrong after you crash the machine. And "if in doubt, ask". And get some Visine after work. If you've never been in a machine shop before there is a good chance you'll feel like you have rocks in your eyes tomorrow night.

If you've got any specific questions send me a PM. I'm a journeyman machinist so I may be able to help.

Don't do anything that you think is unsafe, regardless of what the guy training you is saying.

You'll probably just spend most of your first day signing contracts (if applicable), filling out payroll paperwork and writing WHMIS exams (or some other equivalent safety test). The prison bitch idea is a good one as well though.

From wikipedia:
The abbreviation CNC stands for computer numerical control, and refers specifically to a computer "controller" that reads G-code instructions and drives a machine tool, a powered mechanical device typically used to fabricate components by the selective removal of material. CNC does numerically directed interpolation of a cutting tool in the work envelope of a machine. The operating parameters of the CNC can be altered via a software load program.

So you know something about this?? Just a hunch.

As an employer, I say show up early, stay late and bring your boss a coffee at least a couple of times during the day. I also like this idea below. HIlarious.

Instead of donuts bring hookers and blow. That makes a lasting impression.
