Eyech... cleaning stippled ceiling
Long story short:
1) Coke can mysteriously exploded in the middle of the night
2) Must now find a way to remove sticky substance from stippled ceiling
I've searched the web with little success. Anybody have any ideas how this unusual cleaning task could be accomplished?

I can't think of anything other than painting over it.

Just go get a little container of ceiling white touch up from the paint store and paint over the spots. That will be much easier that cleaning the spots and re-stippling.
Similar thing happened to me last week, but there was no explosions.

Go to a small paint store on a weekday during normal business hours. Those guys will have the best ideas.

A spray bottle with a little bit of bleach in water should do the trick.

If it were my problem, I'd probably resign myself to an afternoon of looking upward and spot cleaning. Instead of scrubbing too hard and destroying the stipple, probably better to spot clean in two passes.

Or you could do what I did and wet the entire stippled ceiling and remove it, then paint it over. That was a fun 2 weeks (I did the whole house)

I have nothing anything useful to add, but was your pop can on top of the fridge? I had this exact thing happen to me, leading to coke all over the stippled ceiling. I think the non-stop microvibrations and heat generated by the fridge eventually caused the gas to overwhelm the can's integrity.
After ruining the ceiling job with a wet cloth, I learned my lesson to never put carbonated beverages on top of the fridge. Luckily it was a rental unit, and the landlord forgot to look up when doing the damage inspection

Nope...it's a simple case of WTF: The can was inside an unopened 12-pack on a standard-height countertop. The top just popped outward for no known reason, and managed to create enough spray to penetrate the box, to reach the ceiling, and to coat the surrounding three walls...up to 4 feet away horizontally. I wish I'd seen it happen.

This is when you put a mouse inside the coke can and take it down to the factory and say there was a mouse in the can and it made coke explode everywhere so you demand a free case of coke.

^^ Actually, I would call Coke and tell them what happened. Ask how they would recommend cleaning it, and if they are willing to compensate you for your time and efforts.
Might be worth a couple of free kilos of Coke.

LOL in a similar vein, I bought a bottle of organic pomegranite juice, and not knowing that it was to remain refrigerated, put it on the top of my fridge, and went away for the weekend. well, it was a hot weekend, and it got hot in the house, and when I came home, I saw a 'gunshot' and splatter all over the ceiling (which was not stippled) - anyway, I was able to wipe off the counters, fridge, etc OK, but in the end, I had to paint the walls and the ceiling, and use that water damage primer first, as the pomegranite juice just stained into the area...
