Default I heard a little somethin

This is something that I heard, if you can verify let me know. If you receive a moving violation ticket and send in a cheque for a higher amount than the charge, then they must send you back a cheque for the difference. If you do not cash the cheque then it is deamed an incomplete transaction and demerits points cannot be assessed to your licence. Anyone tried this?

I've heard of that, but I doubt it's true.

Plus, there's something to be said for trying to cheat the system rather than fight it.

Heard the same for speeding tickets, tried it, still got the ticket minus a few dollars.

Probably true. Less demerit points given out = less licenses taken away = more speeding tickets given out = more money in = the whole point of traffic fines != public safety

I didn't want the non-dorks to think I meant "double equals"... Also, I think != is how "Not Equal To" is done in C...

lol, double equal. It's not only equal once, its equal twice!! Amazing!

To further the thread derailment (but you kinda have to expect that with the ultra vague thread title):

[Fry is in a Captain Pike-style life-support machine]
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Do you understand the charges?
Kif Kroker: One beep for yes, two beeps for no.
[Fry beeps once]
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Yes, so noted. Do you plead guilty?
[Fry beeps twice]
Captain Zapp Brannigan: Double yes. Guilty.

Just go an fight it if you can get a few hours off.

They will almost ALWAYS knock off the demerits if you agree to plead guilty and pay the fine.

Unless you were doing something really stupid.

I talked to a lawyer in January about fighting a ticket for me (I was gonna be out of country for the court date), he told me that they weren't taking demerits off tickets so easy anymore, not like in the past. He also said that trend started in rural areas and was slowly gaining legs in the cities, so YMMV.

Demerits are easy to get taken off... however, you cannot get them completely removed anymore. The most they can do is change the ticket to a lesser offense which results in fewer demerits. They can't make them registered owner tickets anymore.

Back to the OP's question, I know for a fact that if you get a multinova ticket and you over pay it; the points will not appear on your license.

Hmmm been a while since I fought a ticket, you could be right. Gave the advice to my mom and friend and it seemed to work for them. Orginally heard the advice from a lawyer.

But yeah that was several years ago now.
