Default Gangsta Rap was Created by U.S. Govt.

According to R&B singer Alicia Keys:

http://www.bostonherald.com/entertai...ormat=comments

"'Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. ’Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist."

"The bicoastal feud between slain rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled "by the government and the media, to stop another great black leader from existing."

Um...o.k.

haha, thats ridiculous. everyone has a theory i guess.

i think it was created by where they where living "ghetto" and having to be tough so why not write a "song" about it and get paid millions and be able to follow through.

I blame the record companies and the consumers

Electronica was also invented to have a catchy beat to launch nulcear missiles to when the Cold War exploded into full-scale armmegeddon, but I digress.

Sometimes celebrities should just...shut up.

We Americans need more celebrities to step up and give their opinions on national/world affairs. How else are we going to decide on who to vote for?

Yup, and EMO was created so that whiny pissy little kids would off themselves in record numbers so that we could someday walk into a record store and not be looked down upon by the "Cool" guy behind the counter, for our obvioulsy terrible taste in music.

If it was created by the government then that explains why it's so terrible.* The government can't do anything right.

*Yes I know music is based purely on ones opinion, and your opinion may differ from mine and I am sure you think you could recommend some groups and I would change my opinion on rap and appreciate it for what it is. But I still don't like it. So don't sick anyone on me, gangster and/or government.

Bah, rap music actually is terrible, so don't apologize for it. It doesn't take a genius to rhyme to a set looped beat while pontificating about how awesome it is to be you. But, it has it's place in popular culture so we all have to deal with it

I've noticed a trend, and I'm sure many others have as well. At what point do "minorities" who dealt with racisim cross the line of defense and start spewing racist rhetoric themselves? This is like that Kanye West thing where he stated that Bush hates black people. Bush doesn't hate black people... Bush likes making his friends rich.

How do I reeech dez keeedz?

Somehow I have trouble seeing 50 white older guys in lab coats tossing ideas around a think tank

"Ok, we should make it about accumulating wealth and throwing money around"

"Yes we'll call it bling because it rhymes with so many things.

"What if instead of shooting a person we talk about inserting a bullet in their buttocks"

"Yes, Yes (evil laugh) and in the video game they can fire cap guns at each other"

No it doesn't take a genius, but if it's that easy why don't we all do it?

I'd love to set a few rhymes to a looped beat and make millions of dollars and live the high life but instead I'm stuck in my day job. There must be more to it.

I'm not really a fan of rap music, but...

It doesn't take a genius to bang out some power chords on a guitar and spew out teenager bedroom poetry overtop. It also doesn't take a genius to dress a 16-year-old girl in what is effectively a bikini and have her prance around on stage. It also doesn't take a genius to write a song about America or God or my truck and sing it over 4 chords on an acoustic guitar. And I could go on and on and on...

There is actually a lot of really bright, interesting, politically and culturally aware rap music. I blame both the record companies and consumers for heavily marketing gangsta rap garbage over more artistic hip hop. It's a chicken-and-egg thing though... which came first... the demand for music pablum or the marketing and production of that pablum?

As for the Kanye comment, he wasn't being reverse racist or whatever it is you're suggesting. I don't think anyone should pay Kanye any attention at all, but he actually said Bush "doesn't care about black people". That's a big difference from "Bush hates black people". You're right though... Bush doesn't care about poor people. That much is obvious. It just so happens (and it's not by chance) that a large percentage of the poor in America are black.

Keys, you sound like an idiot.

Gangsta rap just started from some artist in the ghetto who wanted to write up a poem about his hard life, and went on from there.

Isn't that exactly what Paris Hilton did with her CD?

The hardest part is probably getting all the expensive equipment together.
