I was just watching Entertainment Tonight Canada and JD Fortune was fired from INXS ("with a hand shake in a Hong Kong airport" as stated on ET Canada and Wikipedia).
I checked the INXS website and there isn't any mention of this. The site doesn't look like it's been updated in months.
JD is now living out of his truck, again, and having to steal and beg to make ends meet...so it seems.
On 16 February 2009, JD revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada that INXS fired him from the band with a shake of the hand at an airport in Hong Kong. The band is once again without a frontman and their new album indefinitely put on hold. JD is back to living out of his car (pickup truck) and saving/stealing every dime to try and get his solo album out ("Death of a motivational speaker"). He said he's been off of all drugs including cocaine for the past 2 years.
Does anyone else know anything about this? I've tried doing some searching online, but I can't find much. The ET story was only 3 minutes long. Not much was revealed.
I was never a big fan of JD taking over Michael Hutchence's spot in INXS. It always seemed like a cheap ploy to sell more records for an aging out of work (broke) band. After all, Michael Hutchence did commit suicide. To me INXS died the day that Michael did. But after hearing the new record, JD's voice and youthful spirit injected into the band, made me a fan again.
I'm really kinda shocked to hear this news. I feel bad for the guy.
Stunningly a guy that was a lead singer of a very successful band is living out of his car. Obviously he didn't have a financial planner in his posse.
But its not unusual, remember that the lead singer of Quiet Riot ended up living in his moms basement.
I'm wondering if there was some sort of contract dispute? Maybe JD didn't follow through on something or maybe broke some "rules."
And since they released the Switch album, does he not get any type of royalties (money) every time INXS songs are played on the radio? I mean, just the songs he helped write and did vocals for? As I seem to remember he was half of the writing team for the song "Pretty Vegas."
Was he dumb enough to sign on with INXS and not get a "cut"?
Songs need to played on the radio to receive royalties . . . I've never once heard these new INXS songs on any radio station. By the way, this guy is different from the one that hanged himself while jacking it right?

Pretty Vegas and Afterglow have been on the radio a lot.
Pretty Vegas was pretty much one of those ridiculously overplayed songs of Calgary radio of 2006.
Well you're right anyway that they haven't been on the radio lately, therefore no royalties. Somehow he must have blown all the royalties he got 2 years ago when he was getting airplay

I do remember reading somewhere that INXS lost their contract with who ever it was in the US that promoted their album. Low sales...so they got dropped.
Wonder if that had anything to do with it? I know sales were better in Canada.
I saw JD Fortune and INXS when they performed here at Stampede in 2007. It was a pretty damn good live show, and JD did a great job on those classic INXS tunes.
A real shame, but the guy's young and has a good voice, so if he can get his crap together, he should have some more success in the future.
