Loved the episode, the whole Stewie as Darth Vader thing was so well done.
Still like the Robot chicken star wars a bit better.

Great way to finish the day off after watching Star Wars on Spike earlier.
Ah, the couch is hilarious.

"Hold your fire, there's no life forms aboard"
"Hold your fire? What are we paying by the laser now?!"
"You don't do the budget, I do"
Always thought that exchange was the funniest part of the episode.

So totally overrated. I agree with the Southpark creator's dim view of Family Guy. And to think I used to love that show.
Heck, half the clips are recycled back and forth from Robot Chicken.

I love the Porkin's thing where he can't fit into his X-Wing
"Red Buttons standing by"
"Red fox standing by"
"Big red standing by"
"Red October standing by"
"Helen Reddy standing by"
"Simply red standing by"
Pretty funny stuff.

Have to admit that I've been creeping ever closer to this camp since I saw Cartoon Wars. I hate it when I'm influenced by 'opinions', but this is one that I gotta agree with.

As a Canadian and since they talked about hockey in the opening crawl, I was hoping for Red Story.

I've always found Family Guy as a bit of a cheap laugh, I do agree with the Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as I find South Park way better, but as a huge Star Wars fan, I thought this episode was really well done, and it makes me laugh every time.
Easily the best Family Guy episode.

Family Guy is a cheap laugh. That's why it's great. If you're watching a cartoon for social commentary or "high brow" comedy you're looking in the wrong place.
Both, South Park and Family Guy go for easy laughs. They both love their fart jokes and racial stereotyping.

I contend that South Park is a social commentary. And a brilliant one at that. To solidify my argument, I point to the Mormon episode.
Stan's anger doesn't much upset anyone in the Mormon family other than Gary, who confronts Stan and the other boys the next day, pointing out that he believes his religion does not need to be factually true, because it still supports good family values. Gary condemns their bigotry and ignorance, stating: "All I ever did was try to be your friend, Stan, but you're so high and mighty you couldn't look past my religion and just be my friend back. You've got a lot of growing up to do, buddy. Suck my balls."
He walks away, and the episode ends as Cartman, with a new-found respect for Gary, says, "Damn, that kid is cool, huh?"
Family Guy, on the other hand, is a cheap laugh. I say that with all due respect, as I happen to enjoy the show, but an episode of Family Guy is really just a bunch of jokes, animated.

I'm not a huge Family Guy fan, but I thought they did a great job with Blue Harvest. The pimped tie fighter, R2 shooting out the side of the Falcon, the shot at "12 Parsecs," though one can actually explain that so that Han is right, and the Dr. Who part all made me laugh pretty hard. Also the two sand crawlers.. "Hoo-dee-dee" passes the grey poupon.. funny stuff!
South Park is completely correct about FG though. It's all just mixed references from the 80s and 90s.

but its a cheap laugh thats written by manatees with idea balls...
I used to enjoy family guy, and will still get a small laugh every now and then from it but otherwise its the same jokes over and over again and dragged out to the point of sheer stupidity
really, when Peter falls and scrapes his shin, do we need to see him sitting there on the cement wincing for 2 full minutes....or fighting that stupid chicken every other episode for a 3-5 minute segment
though i will say, atleast family guy can poke fun at itself.
After the Southpark cartoon wars episode where Cartman points out that family guy just cuts to jokes that in no way further the story; there was a family guy episode where stewie is talking to brian and starts off with that whole "do you remember when...." they then the stand there and stewie comments "oh we dont have a clip of that, I thought for sure we would have a clip of that"

Family Guy is great for cheap laughs. Sure, if you're looking for some preaching and social commentary, South Park will probably serve you better... I guess I've always thought that if I'm looking for anything more than entertainment (valid social commentary and insight), cartoons on Comedy Central probably isn't where I'd look. I'm happy with FG, it's hilarious. People can get educated through other mediums than cartoons, FG is just for having fun.

Princess Leia - "Aren't you a little fat to be a stormtrooper"
Chris Skywalker - "Well stay here and rot you stuck up b#tch"
Chris (Luke Skywalker): Well, I guess I'll go bullseye some womp rats in my T-16.
Quagmire (C-3PO): My God! You shoot small animals for fun? That's the first indicator of a serial killer, you freak!
Chris (Luke Skywalker): There's two suns and no women. What the hell am I supposed to do?
Chris (Luke Skywalker): They're coming too fast!
Peter (Han Solo): A nickel for every time I had that problem.
Peter (Han Solo): We'll be safe enough once we make the jump to hyperspace. Besides, I know a few maneuvers. We'll lose'em.
[ the Falcon starts listing lazily to the left]
Chris (Luke Skywalker): Uh, that was your maneuver? Moving slightly to the left?
Peter (Han Solo): Well, I mean we're not in the same place we were, huh? That ought to confuse'em.
Chris (Luke Skywalker): Yeah, but you hardly did anything. You just started listing lazily to the left. I'm pretty sure they can keep up.
Imperial Officer 1: Where did they go?
Imperial Officer 2: There they are! They're listing lazily to the left. Go left, left!
Imperial Officer 1: Boy, this guy knows some maneuvers.

I was given the DVD as a gift, and the behind-the-scenes stuff is really neat, how the animators would have Star Wars playing in a window on their computer and they worked to duplicate the exact look. As well, the Family Guy creator interviews George Lucas, who apparently loves the tribute.
I believe they'll be doing Empire and Jedi as well.

South Park has tainted my view of Family Guy as well. Once it was pointed out that the jokes in Family don't related to the plot it become very obvious and distracting. It makes the writing look very lazy and makes the show less enjoyable. Plus some of the Family humour is wearing thin on me. The intentional extended scenes of something boring or repetitive happening is tired. The creepy old man, greased up deaf guy, or weird gay guy are terrible characters and get way too much time on screen. Especially the creepy guy in this Star Wars one. I don't find him funny at all. Apart from that the episode was OK at best. I enjoyed the Robot Chicken one far more. They took obscure parts of the movie and ran with it. The jokes were original and funny. Family guy just reenacted lots of the movies with Family Guy characters. That's been done.

I loved the opening...
A long time ago, but somehow in the future... It is a period of civil war and renegade paragraphs floating through space. There's cool space battles, and the bad guy is the good guy's dad. But you don't find that out 'til the next episode. And the hot chick is really the sister of the good guy, but they don't know it and they kiss. Which is kind of messed up. I mean, what if they had done it instead of just kissed? Angelina Jolie kissed her brother. Yeah, she did. You know it, I know it, and her dad knows it. That's why they hardly ever talk anymore. You can run away to Africa, but you can't run away from the truth. Oh, by the way, here's a tip for you: when this is over, go out and rent the movie "Gia." She's way naked in it, and makes out with another chick and everything. It's awesome. I stumbled across it late night on HBO after I had just got back from hockey, and I almost fainted. But I digest... Princess Leia was coming back from buying space groceries when this happened...
