Yep, didn't like his politics either, but a fine actor indeed.

that's really too bad.

I'm not a fan of his position on guns, but I still think Michael Moore embarassed him badly in Bowling for Columbine. Picking on a senior citizen on the verge of dementia, especially with creative editing, isn't cool.

If you watch some of his epics - Ben Hur, the 10 Commandments, Planet of the Apes - they really are good movies and he really is the perfect person to have acted in them.

I'll miss him, but like Tranny, I won't miss his politics.

Great actor? I dunno. Over-emotive I thought. Did he ever have a nuanced role?

Very popular in the old school way, though. I'll give him that.

Although many people might dislike his later political affiliations, it should be noted that he was one of the main activists of the early civil rights movements.

Never a big fan of his acting to be truthful, just overacted in every possible fashion, but Planet of the Apes is one of my all time favs, so RIP Charles.

I'm trying really hard not to make a joke about prying a gun free from somewhere right now.

RIP Charles Heston.

True story -

My brother had been staying at a downtown Toronto hotel on the same weekend as the Toronto Film Festival. He was in the elevator, and Charlton Heston walked onto the elevator just as the door was closing. He kind of awkwardly stepped into the car and pushed the button for his floor without saying anything.

My brother was tempted to say something about him being able to part the Red Sea but had trouble with the elevator, but figured he was packing heat so decided to button up.

Fitting that he dies so near to Martin Luther King's day. He was one of the few who walked with King on his marches and did his best to promote black and minorities into prominant acting roles.

I thank him for that as now can I enjoy watching my favourite actor: Denzel Washington

I don't think he was very 'out of it' in that interview with Michael Moore. And being a senior doesn't and shouldn't make him immune to questioning. I do think it was rude how he approached him, especially in his own home, very tasteless and uncomfortable to watch. On the other hand, Is it true that he would go to a town after a child was killed by gunfire to promote guns? I just find it hard to believe that anyone could really do that. Is there any proof of this anywhere? If so, I'd sure like to read it. I didn't agree with his politics either, but he was a great actor in his time. As far as today's standards he was an overactor, but so were alot of actors back then, like Kirk Douglas, Carey Grant, I think it was just the method of acting back then. I think the women actors were even worse. Just watch Gone With the Wind for cheeseball overacting at its best.

Best role? Easy:

Wayne: [enters gas station] Where's the First Presbyterian Church on Gordon Street?
Bad Actor: Uh...
Wayne: Gordon Street, Gordon Street!
Bad Actor: Uh, Gordon Street! Oh yeah, Gordon Street! Uh, I once knew a girl who lived on Gordon Street. But that was a long time ago. When I was young.
Wayne: [looks at camera] Do we have to put up with this? I mean, can't we get a better actor? I know it's a small part, but I think we can do better than this.
[person from set crew comes in and replaces actor with another one]
Good Actor: Gordon Street? Ah, yes, Gordon Street. I once knew a girl who lived on Gordon Street. Long time ago, when I was a young man. Not a day passes I don't think her and the promise that I made which I will always keep. That one perfect day on Gordon Street. That's uh, five blocks up, two over.
Wayne: [choking back tears] Thank you.
[jumps in car and drives away]

Congratulations in buying into Moore's BS. Embarrassing!

RIP Charlton

Some people thought that he was over the top in his acting, but at his heights all actors were taught to over-emote, and over exaggerate their emotions.

Some people might not have liked his later life politics, but he was a major player in the human rights battles.

To me its sad that the last true memory that a lot of people have is Heston being humiliated through the actions of Michael Moore a man who treats the truth like a pinball machine.

One of the funnier lines by Heston was his hatred of the shoe survivor, when he calmly stated that he would make sure that he was the only survivor by pushing the other players off of a cliff.
