There are a ton of online betting sites, which are legal. That is probably your best bet.
In terms of an actual "bookie", some shady guy in a leather jacket? That may not be legal.

I'm new to all of it, could someone try explaining what some of it means?
Phoenix +1.5 Anaheim -1.5
Over +5.0 Under +5.0
When it says "Phoenix to win 3 goal", does that just mean Phoenix winning by 3 (ex: 5-2, 4-1, 6-3), or does it mean Phoenix scores 3 and gets the win (ex: 3-2, 3-1, 3-0)?

www.pinnaclesports.com for me.
Phoneix +1.5 Anaheim -1.5 is likely the spread. So if you place a wager on Phoenix, take the final score in teh game and add 1.5 goals to Phoenix and if they win after that amount you win.
Over +5.0 Under +5.0 is the over/under for total goals scored in the game. If you wager over and it ends up being 4-2, 4-3, 7-0 etc. you win.

I haven't even looked at any of the site suggestions, but I'll ask anyway... Can you bet on all the weird stuff like first goal and penalty minutes? I'm not a big gambler so I really don't feel like signing up for a site. Besides playing poker, the last time I bet money on something was the '04 playoffs, and I did that through a bookie. The guy would take almost any bet... First goal, total goals, whether Iginla took a dump before the game...

Pinnacle offer far and away the best odds of any site on the internet. Check tomorrow or the next day and they should have series prices up for the first round. I'd say San Jose will be about -220 favourites, so we should be about +200 (meaning you win two dollars for every one dollar you bet, plus you get back your initial wager of one dollar.) So if you bet $1000 on the Flames to win the series, you'd end up with $3000 total return.

I have used pinnaclesports as well, but I think when it comes to hockey, their "weird stuff" as 4x4 puts it, is pretty much non-existent. Other sports on that website offer more, but for hockey, you don't get a whole lot.
pinnaclesports.com is ranked amongst the top sportsbooks on the internet.

Yeah, I'll take your money, but if you lose, I get your kneecaps. Its in the bookie union bylaws.

overunder is the total goals for the game. Over 5 or under 5, in this case 5 would be a tie, quite a few lines will be set at half intervals though.
As for phoenix +1.5 basically you're wagering Phoenix will lose by at most one or win the game.
Anahiem -1.5 must win by atleast 2 goals.

I used to use Sportsinteraction but then they began asking for a ridiculous amount of personal information and they made you go through hoops to withdraw funds. Bet365 still has a very simple withdrawal procedure...they also offer frequent $10 "loyalty" bonuses which is a nice touch.
I also like their site, because they offer live betting on many sporting events. That's how I make most of my money...you pay a higher premium on these bets, but if you know the teams you're betting on and their tendencies, you can do quite well with live betting while watching the game. If you're really sharp, you can really capitalize on some situations.
