I love the extra attention.
However I'm not as fanatical as some on this board (meaning I can't tell you who we got in the Bure trade), but now I am sought out as "the" source of information.

I have mostly Oiler fans in my office. I am wearing my jersey today. They did not like my Hemsky song, Don't Stand So Close To Me. I'm having a good week.

I'm greatly out numbered and people are always tough in crowds.
Heck I even wore my Chiefs jersey and hat to a Monday night game in Oakland (really stupid move by the way). I was called everything in the book and threatened with physical violence repeatedly. I never said a thing, didn't make any gestures and kept to myself as much as I could.

Yup, this goof next to me didn't say a word yesterday when they won. But as soon as I came into the office he had to say something...
Other than that, I don't really have that problem. I don't talk hockey with anyone in the office who isn't a year round fan.

I'm torn on this one... yeah, it can be pretty damn annoying, however I think there's plenty of room on the bandwagon! It promotes a little bit of culture in the office and for the most part they are pretty harmless.

We have "Flames die-hards" that come out of the woodwork every year during the playoffs. I get a real kick out of their "fond memories" that are littered with inaccuracies:
"Dude, I've loved the Flames ever since Makarov undressed Roy to win the Cup at the Dome..."
"I was at the game at the Corral when Steve Smith fired one in his own net...."
Stuff like that. I usually get rid of them once they stop amusing me by talking about obscure facts and trivia.. Many bandwagon fans in the office. They'll cheer me as I replace the flags on the top of our building with Flames flags... then heckle me when I've taken them down after the past 2 years...
Drives me nuts now that I think of it.

LOL..I love how they give themselves away with their little stories. But whatever, sports is all about bandwagoners...every team has them.

I think I've managed to piss off everyone I work with. I think they all spite me just because of a small thing I did a few years ago. When the Oilers were in the Stanley Cup finals I put up a Carolina Hurricanes poster on my door.....wow did I ever get some unfriendly responses. Apparently I'm supposed to cheer for the Canadian team.....seriously, piss off. I'll cheer for who I want to cheer for and I know I don't want to cheer for the Coilers.

Dude, I hear you. Last year I was sitting in the bar by my house with my friends watching the playoffs.
I was cheering for the Penguins over the Senators and the Stars over the Canucks and eventually the Ducks over the Sens and everytime someone would come up to me with:
"Hey man, arent you Canadian, dont you love Canada? If not get the F out!"
Get lost. I'll hate who I want to and celebrate their failure as I please.
Some people...

Locke, I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced this. It is one of the most frustrating things I've encountered. Even when you try and tell them the other team has a number of Canadian players on the team, they still don't like it. Whatever...let them get angry, it's at least amusing.

Not sure I can find a link cuz I think you need to be subscribed to see it online, but there was an article in today's Herald (in the Real Life section, not sure wtf it was doing there of all places) decrying the idea of people getting into the playoff spirit AT ALL. Of course of the sad saps they did interview for the piece - which basically says it's unfair to those who aren't avid fans that people should want to have a good time during the playoffs - only one fessed up to his true allegiances: an Oilers fan.
Personally, I don't care if you're on the playoff bandwagon and nonpartisan the rest of the time - this is my favorite time of year and I'll talk hockey with anyone who wants to. I like the fact that people get into it - it may seem pathetic to some but it's things like this that bring people together as a community. Embrace it.

Hahah... that's awesome! The year the Oilers went to the finals I was wearing my Flames jersey and had printed off Carolina symbols which I put overtop of the Horsehead and Flaming C... people were livid!

Kinda reminds me of last night... went to Melrose with some co-workers, and these girls came around with a "contest"... all they do is rattle off jersey numbers and you have to say who wears it. Pretty easy for anyone who watches the Flames even on a semi-regular basis, right? Nope.
I was the only one at the table who could do it, and everyone just stared at me in amazement at how I could remember all those jersey numbers. "ohhh, how do you do that?"
My reply was that we could play the same game with 1989 jersey numbers and I'd do just as well.

Well done, at least you could do it. Honestly, I like seeing people get caught up in the team during the playoffs. The only time it bugs me is when they think they need to go to a game. Leave that to the fans who cheer for them all the time.
Last year I was at a playoff game and this guy and his girlfriend showed up halfway through the 2nd period, then left at the end of the 2nd. Those seats could have found better homes if you ask me.

I don't really have that problem at my office... I used to though. I'm no longer the smartest hockey fan in my office.
