"climate change COULD cause a drop in beer production as areas dry-up in the next 30 years."

This reminds me of a big, two page article that appeared in the Herald several years ago. It claimed the Bow River could potentially dry-up over the next decade thanks to global warming and the resultant "drought". The very next summer, Calgary experienced record precipitation in June/July and the Bow flooded.

What kind of statement is "Climate change likely will cause a decline in the production of malting barley"? I could also say "In the coming decades, production of malting barley will likely increase due to technological advancement".

I guess I have just as much credibility as those writers.

Methinks this is a little speculative at best here. When you see David Suzuki on the jumbotron trying to appeal to the beer-swilling johnny six-pack and then this, it makes you wonder if stories like this are more marketing for the cause to reach "everyday" citizens as opposed to serious hard numbers. The best anyone in the IPCC has ever claimed to be "non-negotiable" is that climate change is real and that it's human driven. Congrats to them, however to accurately speculate on what it's going to do on one specific implement in the beer making process probably is jumping the gun.

Further evidence of the marketing at work is the lack of Global Warming Alamist articles during North America's near record cold and precipitation filled winter. Now that's it's spring and the weather's warming up they can fire out crap like this for the masses. When the temperature reaches 30 degrees in June (Not all that unusual) there will be a flood of new articles speculating on a bunch of different things that climate change is going to ruin for you. All with as much speculation as this article.

Looks like a great investment opportunity to me.

I might have to swing by the liquor store and buy in heavily while the prices are low.

It wasn't 'those writers' that said it, the article states it was Jim Salinger (Climate Scientist @ New Zealand's National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research). The article is specifically talking about Australian & New Zealand barley production. It says that if things get hotter/drier, less barley can be grown in Australia. Not exactly mind-blowing, seems pretty obvious. You're pretty quick to snipe at someone's credibility.
