It's $50 pretty much everywhere isn't it?

Yeah 50 bucks everywhere, but nobody has them in stock.

Like me, they've realized that the currently released HD-DVD movies are suddenly a lot cheaper than the Blu-Ray ones and that the quality is identical (even better, depending on which side of the fence people are on), so they are snatching up all the HD DVD players to take advantage of this while they wait for the Blu-Ray players to not be 870000 dollars anymore.

Anyhoo... none of this matters, since I found out that the PS3 also streams DivX (like the 360 does), so I went with the PS3 instead.

Good choice on the PS3. I didn't know the 360 does DivX.

Yeah! I'm loving this system so far. Downloading a copy of Linux atm... going to install it when it finishes. Just have to pick up a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and then I can use my PS3 as a desktop PC on my high def tv !

Should be pretty sweet... watch the game on HDMI1, and switch to HDMI2 to stalk the Game Thread here!

What do you figured the odds of MS making a blue ray player for the 360? It's doable, isn't it?

MS already stated they have no plans to bring out a blu-ray player. their answer is the downloadable HD movies they offer on xbox live. I wouldn't doubt that at some point there will be an aftermarket player of some sorts though.

rumors started swirling last week that there were talks between the two camps, but nothing confirmed.

While it is a dead format, there are a lot of quality titles out there (like planet earth). The players are so cheap right now that if ever you were going to pick one up, this would be the time.

Obviously if you were serious about the road ahead you should look into bluray, but if you want cheap hd right now the prices are incredibly low.

Independent research of gamers and players shows HDTV owners prefer HD DVD two to one over Blu-ray.
