- Less than 1 drink per day/less than 5 per week
- 1 per day/5 per week
- 2-3 per day/10-15 per week
- 4-5 per day/20-25 per week
- 6-7 per day/30-35 per week
- 8-9 per day/40-45 per week
- More than 10 per day/More than 50 per week
Maybe we can get a poll.
How many drinks do you have a day?
Let's make this a Sunday to Thursday poll since Fridays and Saturdays are generally heavier drinking days when I for example, might drink more than I normally do simply because I'm out partying because it's the weekend.
Some recommendations from Health Canada:
Canada's Drug Strategy considers moderate alcohol consumption for most adults to be no more than one drink a day and no more than seven drinks a week.
What is one drink equal to?
- 1 12-oz bottle of beer
- 1 5-oz glass of wine
- 1 standard shot of liquor
*Martinis and margaritas normally have two shots of liquor... so 1 Martini/Margarita = 2 drinks
*Pints of beer are 19.2-oz glasses which accounts to about 1.5 drinks
*The normal bottles of wine usually come in 750mL bottles (25-oz) which is around 5 drinks according to Health Canada.
For me, I'll typically average one pint of beer a week, four mix drinks a day (i.e. rye and ginger) and I think one bottle of red wine per week...
1.5 drinks + (4 drinks X 5 days) + 5 drinks = 26.5 drinks per week...
WAY above the 5 drink maximum recommended by Health Canada...
Is it just me or is that 5-drink recommendation a little out of whack? I mean, if you have one bottle of wine between you and your wife/husband with a meal twice in one week, you're already at your maximum amount according to the government...
