crippling headaches...
anyone else had problems this week? I've had one since Sunday night. It moved yesterday to my sinus cavity. I can't be upright for more than about 10 minutes at a time. Are we having wicked pressure changes or is it just me?
I actually went to the hopistal wednesday and had a CAT scan and a spinal tap to make sure I didn't have some sort of tumour or anuerysm, it's been that bad.

Holy crap man, I hope you feel better soon.
I had a bad one yesterday but I took a couple IB Prof tabs and it went away... isn't a spinal tap pretty serious business?

My wife used to suffer whenever the weather changed dramatically. She hasn't had the same problem since our daughter was born. My suggestion to you: get knocked up.

LOL! Thx fredr.
I went to the hospital as my sister actually was diagnosed with an aneurysm earlier this year. The doctor didn't want to take any chances. I had heard horror stories about spinal taps, but it really wasn't that bad. I barely felt a thing (though, as a lovely side effect, it does make your headache worse for awhile).

"It's not a tuma"
No signs of tumour or aneurysm. Spinal fluid was clear, so a 99% chance I'm ok (they're running more tests on the fluid, I should know today). Might just be a really bad migraine. If so, holy crap, I had no idea they could last this long.

welcome to the club .... any time the weather shifts I get a huge migraine (due to the pressure changes). Last year I had a severe headache for 9 weeks straight and still have no idea what caused it (went for blood tests, MRI, CAT scan).

I found an incredible secret cure for debilitating headaches, if you're a guy. Take two of your girlfriends/wifes/your own secret stash of PMS cramp pills. The two brands that I've used are Midol and Pamprin and both work like a freaking charm. Fifteen minutes and you go from unable to walk or open your eyes to pain free, energetic, and in a great mood.
Of course, those pills contain whopping doses of some female hormone, either estrogen or progesterone or possibly both - so it's not the kind of thing you can do every day ... more like once or twice a year for those really, really bad headaches. But try it man, I swear to freaking' god it works.

I usually take Sudafed and it seems to work most of the time, but if I wait too long, I am hooped. Gotta love our weather!

Do you find after you take them that you nag at your wife for not doing enough around the house and that she watches too many sports highlights over and over again??

I get migraines occassionally and a pharmicist once gave me some useful advice.
Take one or two Advil quick release migraine gel caps, and chug a strong cup of coffee. I was skeptical at first because I found that nothing over-the-counter ever worked for migraines, but it worked. The coffee trick works.
Sounds like Habernac's problem isn't a migraine though, so I don't know if it would work for him.

I seem to recall reading that 70% of the population are affected by chinooks or rapid changes in barometric pressure.

As someone who has had those crippling headaches I understand your concern. There are usually external causes that can explain them. In my time I've also had 2 CAT scans, an MRI and a spinal tap.
The major causes for me are three-fold, and all dietary. Now that I know, I am virtually headache free. The first and major cause for me came on later in life (in my late 20's) and I'd had no reaction earlier.
The cause of my headaches was food coloring called "Tartrazine" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartrazine) which I was consuming in movie popcorn (its the yellow) and in Campbells Corn Chowder soup, two of my faves.
The second was a symptom of my Celiac Disease, although not a common one. Celiac Disease is the world's most common genetic disorder, and it basically means that your body mistakes a certain protein in wheat, rye and barley as a poison and attacks itself.

The third for me is the dreaded caffeine, or rather, withdrawal from it. While I only drink a cup or two a day, if I happen to go without for a few days I occasionally get those headaches and they are only remedied by time or more exposure to caffeine.
Hope that helps - regardless feel better soon.

The caffeine withdrawal is a major one with me too. It can be excruciating.

My wife suffers headaches due to weather change -- what really helps her is a visit to the chiropractor...

In my day when someone complained of headaches, we'd go to the garage and grab a drill with a 1/8" drill bit and drill some holes in the skull to relieve the pressure.
Sometimes we forgot to measure twice and drill once, and then we'd get what was called an involuntary relex, kinda jig like. After that the patient would never complain about headaches, or colds or fevers or taxes again. Cause they'd mostly just lie there.
We liked to call it toughing it out.

Man, I'm glad I never have to deal with that crap. There can be a huge change in presssure and I wouldn't have a clue unless my g/f is around. She gets really bad headaches during chinooks.
Any idea why it effects some but not others? I have a REALLY easy time equalizing my ears when underwater or in an airplane, does that have anything to do with it?
