Default Modry and Kozlov head to the North East

In a deal completed late last night after a long drawn out process the Nashville Predators shipped Viktor Kozlov and Jaroslav Modry to the Quebec Nordiques.

In return for the two pending UFA's the Predators receive Denis Seidenberg and John Negrin. "Chances are that Kozlov and Modry were not to be re-signed here, and this way we get two solid young players back in return. Negrin is a blue-chip prospect, and Seidenberg is a solid talent as well" said GM Slava.

Also involved in the deal was $5.15 million going to Quebec this season, and ECHL player Jakub Vojta. The ECHL inclusion was purely to make the roster numbers work. The Preds and Nords also swapped 2010 picks, with Nashville acquiring the Nords 2nd for the Preds 3rd in that year.

There are still a few players who are coveted by some playoff squads in Nashville. As the deadline approaches there are expected to be a few deals in music city as the Predators fail to make the playoffs this season.

I like the move for both sides. Seidenberg has a good upside and will hopefully start seeing some more minutes in Carolina. Negrin has emerged as another great 3rd Round Draft pick by Sutter.

This was exactly the type of move the Nords were looking for. Chances are we may not be able to retain either player after July 1, but we added two quality players in attempt to get back into the playoff picture.

It's tough to give up such big chunks of our future on this deal, but "The Other" Kozlov and Modry should provide imediate results, we hope.

The Nordique organization would like to thank Slava ("Not Kozlov") for sticking with this deal. It's almost been a month in the making, and with his limited internet access was tough to get a hold of him. But he made sure we got the players we wanted.

Good deal for the Nords... both sides really.

Nords get upgrades both up front and on the backend... without moving players that will be huge impact players the next year or two.

Preds get something for their UFA's ... Assets for use down the road.

Sabres are willing to play the role of the predators in a similar deal
