Anybody else looking forward to this LP as much as me? I just read the wiki entry for the album and after digesting a few of recently leaked tracks over the past couple weeks, I am diggin' the music something fierce and can't wait for this to drop in two weeks. From the article:
Quote:
As of September 13, the album was being recorded in Hawaii. On September 24, West announced that he had finished the album and would be releasing it sometime in November. In his blog, he wrote "I changed my album to November something cause I finished the album and I felt like it..I want yall to hear it as soon as possible". West later stated that the album would be released on November 25, 2008.
The entire album is sung by West with the aid of Auto-Tune, aside from one verse by Young Jeezy, a duet with Lil Wayne, and additional vocals by Kid Cudi. West has stated that he loves using Auto-Tune and is dismayed that the term has been commonly associated with being "wack". He considers the technology "the funnest [sic] thing to use." West compared the situation to when he was a child and thought the color pink was cool until someone told him "it was gay". He went on to state how the views of society can rob people of their confidence and self-esteem.
West classified 808s & Heartbreak as pop music and expressed that, "People think pop is bad, but Michael Jackson was pop and who can compare to him?" He later stated that he wishes to present the music as a new genre called "pop art", not to be confused with the visual art movement of the same name.
Nice to see him going a different direction with his music and keeping it fresh. For all the drama that surrounds this guy and his ego, if he keeps making great music I might even forgive him for making me wait for 4 hours in the TN moonlight for him to perform a terrible set at Bonnaroo! Might even make some new fans if the entire LP is in the same vein as "Love Lockdown" and "Heartless." I can't deny I am all about this retro, 80's synth-sounding, silly pop music!
Yeah, Kanye's stuff is always great... don't expect to get too many positive comments around these parts though... all hip hop is garbage to 95% of the members here!
Definitely looking forward to it. Hadn't heard the track with Kid Cudi yet, makes me want it even more!
For those who haven't heard of him, check out his myspace.com page: http://www.myspace.com/kidcudi
Also for those who have mix emotions on the auto-tune need to check these guys out:
I do have to agree, Kanye likes to mix it up and try new things.
Whether you like his music or not, he is an actual artist, and not just a pop marketing machine, like a lot of musicians that get lumped in the 'hip-hop' genre.
I am a huge Kanye fan, but don't like the auto tune. It's fine in small and innovative parts, but when every rap song that comes out has it, something is wrong.
I think his pink shirt analogy is fitting. It was cool when a few people starting doing it, but once every ###### with popped collars and spiky bleached hair started wearing them, it got bad fast. That's where auto tune is at now.
I was looking forward to it, and I do like Heartless, but Love Lockdown is a bit of a letdown considering Kanye always comes up with a killer first single for his albums. The other 2 or 3 songs (Robocop and Coldest Winter) which have leaked so far are pure garbage IMO. And I'm with Windsor Pilates on this one...a few songs in autotune is alright, but the whole album, I'm not so sure about especially after T-Pain flogged this thing like a dead horse. I'm still looking forward to it, but I don't think he'll there's much to look forward to considering those two aforementioned songs are on the album.

I'm looking forward to it. Loved Love lockdown... I didn't really like the auto tune sound before (t-pain) but it seems to work on the Kanye tracks I have heard so far.

No, just the packaged crap. I've been picking up stuff by The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest. So so awesome.

I hate hip hop, in general, but someone posted a youtube of one of Kanye's videos a couple of years ago and I can't recall the name of it, but it was fantastic. The video has him in a church...it's sorta dramatic.
I would never buy it, not my bag, but I'm sure I could get into the odd track.
Besides, I'm sure I'll get my fill of it on my route when it comes out.

Where are you all hearing these songs? could you provide links?
I've found a few on youtube, but a lot seem to either be the wrong songs, muted, or something else wrong.
Here is the new one featuring Kid Cudi that I found on Youtube
