This originally came up as a story in September, and there was a thread on it then: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=47494

It'll be interesting to see who will be the buyer.

This is true, I remember reading that the company in the front running is Adidas.

Nike would obviously be reticent to sell such a large subsidiary to their largest competitor, especially as Adidas owns Reebok as well.

It will certainly be interesting to see how that pans out.

If Adidas owns bauer, and I mean this honestly, who else is going to make hockey equipment? I wonder if there would be an Anti-trust issue, because Adidas would own about 95% of the hockey equipment market.

Maybe that is the next step for Under Armour.

I think Nike gets a bad rap in the hockey world simply because they are Nike. When you consider all of the hockey innovations that they are responsible for (wicking liners in practically every piece of gear, thermoformed materials for skates and other protective equipment, extensive use of lightweight synthetic materials in skates, etc) it is pretty easy to see that they haven't been bad for hockey.

I would not be surprised if Nike sells Bauer to a company with nothing to do with sports equipment that is looking to diversify. I don't see any deal with Rbk/The Hockey Company/Adidas being allowed or approved.

Looks like it was sold to Kohlberg & Co and Canadian businessman W. Graeme Roustan for $200-million in cash. Kohlberg is just a equity firm with nothing sports related in their portfolio I believe. If will be interesting to see what kind of direction Bauer goes with their product line now.
