Flames make it seven in a row

All is right with the world today as our beloved Calgary Flames have gone on a 7 game unbeaten streak by beating the Broadstreet Bullies 4-3.

Robert Lang stepped up to the plate today and gave a solid performance with a goal and an assist. Also getting equal billing was none other than Danius Zubrus also with a goal and an assist.

New comer Sergei Gonchar logging 28 minutes of ice time picked up a lone assist on the power play. Sergei has been a welcomed addition to the lineup.

The newest Flame Curtis Leschyshyn played extremely well in 15 minute of ice time and was rewarded with picking up an assist as well.

Keith Tkachuk was not in the lineup tonight due to an injury in his last game with his old club. The Flames are seriously looking into the situation and are wondering if they got damaged goods in the trade. A protest may be filed with the league office......................................or maybe not

The Flames get a two day rest before taking on the mighty St. Louis Blues.
Can we make it 8 in a row!!!

SABRES GM TOO DEPRESSED TO COMMENT ON LOSS
Would rather talk about Predators-Devils game instead

Game Notes

Brent Sopel injured at 13:11 of the 1st Period
Murray Baron injured at 16:03 of the 2nd Period
Vitaly Vishnevski ejected at 16:03 of the 2nd Period
Jean-Marc Pelletier enters game at 12:10 of 3rd period
Vladimir Malakhov ejected at 14:31 of the 3rd Period

Hmmmm. Another unimpressive performance by the Wild. The Wild GM is growing impatient with the team - might be time to shake things up a bit in the Twin Cities.

GM Beerfund Continues to Shop all Players Despite Victory
The Montreal Canadiens participated in their second consecutive shut out game. This time they were on the winning side. Yesterday the Canadiens outshot the Flames 33 to 12, but lost 0-1. Today the Canadiens continued to pepper the opposition with shots (32), but this time 2 got past the Bruin's netminder for a 2-0 victory.
Marty Brodeur continued to show that he is the force that carries the Habs. When he's good the Habs win, when he's not, they lose. GM Beerfund, usually known for the late night/early morning parties following a victory, was notably somber. (note: somber - definately not sober). When questioned, he would only respond, "this team is supposed to win, Marty is supposed to shut out the other team, we're in 20th spot, one game over .500 and out of a playoff spot. I just can't party. Drink? sure, just no parties."
Rumour have it that GM Beerfund is shopping some of the higher priced talent, in hopes of finding the right chemistry.

A Hack Hack Here, and a Hack Hack There

Hurricanes catch a break as Senators star goaltender Marty Turco suffers a mysterious hip injury during an after the whistle scrum. The scrum started after Sen’s Peter Bondra labelled one half of the Hurricanes Red Light Duo Milan Hejduk into the boards directly behind Turco. Hejduk lay motionless on the ice for several minutes after the hit, no word how Turco suffered his injury but it is possible that during the pair offs after the whistle that Cane’s defensemen Mike Komisarek may have accidentally two hand chopped his stick across Turco’s hip. As well there is also word that after Turco fell to the ice that Komisarek may have slipped on the ice and fell awkwardly with his knee driving into Turco’s hip once again, but then it may just be coincidental too. “I’ve seen the replays and the angle I’ve seen is a little deceiving” commented Hurricanes GM Hanna after the game “it only looks like Mike broke his stick but if you rewind the tape you will see that Mike was only trying to keep his balance after being pushed by the Senators player” When asked if he actually believed that, Hanna only replied “no…. OH, I mean, NO more comment”.

After the Hurricanes were able to calm down after the cheap shot on Hejduk (which Hurricanes are sending in to league office, funny thing is there seems to be no such Komisarek incidents at all to be found in the tape” the Cane’s found themselves down 3-0 to the Sen’s… That’s till Milan was able to get his head on straight and continued his amazing run that’s hurled himself on top of the leagues scoring but also the Hurricanes in league standing by netting a goal and three assist to secure a 6-4 win.

Canes look to see if they can continue its 10 gaming winning streak as it heads into Los Angeles on Sunday.

Avs surely set some kind of record by losing two goals in 1 second, blowing a 3-1 3rd period lead. Gm Todd is not happy at his teams slide as is lookin to make some moves.

Egad!!!

What type of Chinese herb did Johnny administer to Knuble & co. to achieve that? Again a goal in one second, and two assists on the play to boot.

Caps had to comeback to earn a point. The boys just couldn't get over laughing at the lineup they were pitted against. Avs being taken comically looks to have helped them all year. With AHL wanabes sitting on the 2nd line on down like Cleary and Brendl it is indeed hard to believe it's a winning hockey club said JohnnyFlame.

But then Cleary, Brendl and Gauthier et. al. turn out to be stars of the game. It's amazing to me said Johnny. I've watched a lot of guys on that team before and they play like absolute crap. Freakin Brendl maybe one of the most lazy dufuses I've ever seen play. But this year that collection is a winning hockey club. There maybe some kind of theory there I don't know about quipped Johnny. If you throw enough crap out there maybe it gets it's sh*te together.

Caps top two lines continue a long drought. Amazing game ain't it when top flight players can't score and AHL wannabe's can. I guess that 's what gives the small market teams hope when they can compete with talent starved clubs. The Union must enjoy it as well as it makes their case more compelling!!!! On the other hand it helps the owners who surely should demand lower salaries for top players because they of theiir lack of production.

MARLEAU SHINES IN WING DEBUT

With Barret Jackman traded away two days earlier the Wings tried a different gameplan. Stay out of the penalty box. Today marked the first time in a long long time that they didnt give up 6-8 powerplays. Just two! Just goes to show you how a team can play when there not trying to ice the puck the whole game. It was another first for the Wings, they scored on the powerplay. Not once but four times! Patric Marleau needed just over four minutes with his new club to break the 0-0 tie. He later added another goal and a assist. Brendan Morrow continues to turn heads as he again recorded a three point night and chipped in with several solid bodychecks. League leader Daymond Lankow also helped pad his stats with a three point night.

The Wings who have been plagued with injuries are starting to heal. Roman Cechmanek who is about 90% played and simply stood on his head in his second game for Detroit. The game marked the end of Danil Markov's 14 game point streak. Jason Chimera seeing limited icetime got himself in the coach's good book with a 2 goal performance.

Next up for the Wings is a game against the Chicago BlackHawks on Saturday night.

Looks like it's time to put Hasek back in the nets after giving him a 5 game rest.

Fedorov is on fire with 17 goals!

BROADSTREET BROADCAST

December 2, 2004

Flyers GM Dan Lemmon simply stated after tonights game that everything is going according to plan. "Hey, Weekes only let in 4, that's an improvement over past games."

About the only positive thing to take from tonights game was that the injury ridden Flyers got a goal and an assist from rookie call-up Jay McClement filling in for your choice of Steven Reinprecht or Eric Lindros. If he can get two points against the Flames, imagine what the Flyers could do when they're healthy.

Speaking of healthy, defenceman Roman Hamrlik has been cleared to resume play. He's expected to draw into tomorrows game versus the Ducks, but may not play on a regular basis until he has fully recovered from his groin injury.

As stated by Lemmon yesterday, Weekes will once again get the call in net tomorrow night.

Ilya We MISS YOU!!!!

The Bruins sorely missed Kovalchuk and his offense tonight. It was a tough, hard hitting defensive battle with the Habs coming out the winners. Thankfully Ilya is off the IR and should be back and ready to go for the Bruins next game against the Rangers on Sunday.
