Default Obama will be assassinated if he wins...

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1
Quote:
If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.

Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, "would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.

Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.

Same people who won't vote for him based on race, and the same people who won't vote for Hillary based on gender.

I can see it. He'd be this century's JFK. Sad to think of, but that's apparently a risk he's willing to take. Security would have to be high at all times for him.

Yes... that's right... the hillbillies will lynch the coloured president... god.

This is 2008, not 1908. Most of the violent racist wackos are now pooping themselves in some nursing home, and the rest are too disorganized and useless to get within 100ft of any President. Especially since the Secret Service will be especially vigilant.

I hadn't thought of this, but by far its not a stretch. Lets hope that this theory is as accurate as Phaneuf slapshot accuracy when he started in the NHL

That's pretty naive, racism is still alive and well in the US.

I've been calling him Dead Man Walking for months already. I certainly don't advocate it, but I fear it. There are a lot of whackos in the world. The people who gave the world Timothy McVeigh are probably capable of it for one. And then there's the whole issue of "Who Shot JFK?" and what they might do.

Edit: I wouldn't necessarily put complete faith in Hilary being safe either.

VIOLENT racist wackos... I didn't say bigots. Racism is alive and well everywhere and the US is definitely no exception. The difference is, nowadays, they'll just complain that some black guy is president, rather than take a shot at him... or like I also said, would be too clumsy to pull it off. No one has successfully assassinated a US president since JFK, and there are allegations to this day it was a complex hit, with government and mafia connections abound. Not some angry lunatic acting alone.

Besides, if someone was really that hell-bent against him, they would take a shot at him before he's president, to ensure that a. "no colored fella ain't ever gonna be president" and b. less security.

I'm not placing a stereotype, but there is a lot of over the top racism still going on today in the Southern United States. I've been there a few times and those are the places where i've seen racism more so then the rest of the US. And from what i've seen this just isn't name calling, etc. It's over the top racism. A lot of sick people out there. I'm with Firefly, there definately will need to be a stronger security force around him. With that being said, Barack's a great guy and I think he would make a wonderful President.

There's always somebody who wants to assassinate the President. That doesn't mean it'll happen. That's why they have a secret service. They're pretty good at protecting him. My suspicion is that there will be neither more nor fewer threats to the life of a President Obama than any other President.

I agree. I just don't think there's too many capable of mobilizing an assassination that the secret service wouldn't smell a mile away and take out. I don't think his assassination is a "sure thing" by any means.

There's a lot of sick SOBs out there, Obama will definitely need more security the longer he's in the public eye... but I still don't see it happening.

He won't be elected in a year ending with zero so it can't happen. And that curse ended with Reagan anyway.

I have wondered about how many people vote for him BECAUSE of his race and how many people vote for Hilary BECAUSE of her gender.

Didn't some women's group even get mad at Oprah for 'selling out gender for race' and backing Obama?

Whoever gets the leadership, it will be a historic first for the U.S.

Obama already has a special security detail from the federal government (CIA?).

He received one a few months ago, by FAR the earliest a presidential nominee (or in this case, merely a potential nominee) has received such protection.

Apparently he has been receiving a LOT of treats, many of which are fearfully quite legitimate.

Race wouldn't be the main motive for an assassination...It's his 'us against the rich' policies.

Its all not going to matter. There is going to be a Republican in office next year.

Im a white male that lives in Iowa and I can care less if that man is Black Brown Pink or Orange. He is the better of the two democrats than all be it make him the Dem runner for the white house. I will vote for him if he wins the Democrat but I will not vote for Hillary. I just have a hard time trusting that person. Now Im a registered republican and i will not vote for McCain and I caucused for Mitt Romney since he is out and the other choice is Huckabee so Im really kinda torn right now. I honestly dont think a democrat will get voted into the white house since they have taken over Congress and havent done anything that they "promised" that they would do.

I don't think there was a specific group which did that, but Oprah did acknowledge receiving a whole horde of emails to her website on the topic.

The New York chapter of the National Organization for Women did however rip on Ted Kennedy for endorsing Obama:

Quote:
The National Organization for Women's New York chapter today issued a scathing response to Sen. Ted Kennedys endorsement of Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary, calling it a "betrayal" of women.

"Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him," but "We are repaid with his abandonment. He's picked the new guy over us. He's joined the list of progressive white men who can't or won't handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton."

The security detail would be provided by the Secret Service, and no, its not out of the ordinary. Many high ranking members of congress are afforded security protection and details. Obama is considered high profile so it makes all the sense in the world.

I'm not surprised that Obama is receiving threats. All political leaders get them, but Obama is definitely an exception because of the number of hate groups out there with an axe to grind. Fortunately, Obama is very popular with whites as well, so it is likely coming from the very fringe, which means all bluster and no action. The planning and assets required to assassinate the President is well beyond the likes of most of these groups.
