Default So, it was supposed to be +2 today...

What happened? It's -15 right now, and it's not going to get anywhere near that. Was looking forward to toboganing with the kids, but I don't think it's gonna happen...

I was going to complain about this a couple hours ago... What gives? Does anyone have a weather website link that describes the weather instead of just telling the high? A chinook could roll in at 10pm. It doesn't do anybody much good if we all think that it's going to be nice all day.

It's a lot warmer out by the mountains . . . . . minus six at Brown Lowery Park this afternoon, southwest of the city.

I just spent an hour x-country skiing around my property southwest of the city and it was quite pleasant, feels like about minus six now here too.

Winter yesterday, 24 below when I was out humping around:

Like Cowperson said, much warmer closer to the mountains.

At least +10 here today.

You must be in the Pincher Creek area.

How are the winds out there?

It was +3C most of the afternoon here in Priddis. Now, going on 5:30 pm, it has dropped off to about -3C. Glorious afternoon, nice and sunny and warm.

Checked my laptop, still had Envirnment Canada's site cached from this morning. This is what it said:

Quote:
Day: Cloudy with sunny periods. Wind becoming west 30 km/h this afternoon. High -1

Night: Clearing late this evining. Wind west 30 km/h becoming light this evening. Wind becoming west 20 km/h overnight. Low minus 7.

Issued: 11:00 AM MST Sunday 10 February 2008
Now they are talking 2-4 cm snow overnight and -17. So it looks like they were just simply wrong.

Often with the chinooks the warm air is just a few hundred feet aloft, which explains why everyone farther west and higher elevations were much warmer. The forecasters may expect that the warm air will make it down that last couple of hundred feet to warm up the whole city, but if it stops just a bit too high, then it stays much colder. So, a small error, but a big difference in temps.

People, this is Alberta. More specifically, this is Calgary.

If the weather guy gets the forecast right more than 33% of the time he is legally prohibited from buying a lottery ticket.

And this month they're running the "Millionaire for Life" lottery.

Believe nothing!

Here is how to explain the weather patterns in Calgary. Our weather literally can change almost instantaneously.

Sunday, it was 0 C at Sunshine Village (powder, powder everywhere).

+2 C in Canmore.

Saturday was -25 C in Canmore and only -10 C at Sunshine (an inversion).
