GM Issues Challenge
Dec 1, 2004
Flyer GM Dan Lemmon held a press conference this morning, it seems he had a few things he wanted to get off his chest.
"This is absolutely rediculous. I am ashamed to have Weekes on my team right now. I do not for the life of me understand how a guy can go from being goaltender of the week to absolute **** in a matter of days. Since his naming he hasn't managed to keep less than 4 goals out in a game he's started. So I'm issuing a challenge to Weekes. He's either going to sink this team or help them turn it around."
Lemmon has told coach Cosmic Stan that Weekes is to be started for the next 5 games, regardless of condition. When asked for a comment Stan replied only with "You're gonna get conductance resonance in the planter! How much do you have for the bus to the Kuranishi program? I'll miss my canoe if you don't hurry up!" After which he jumped in a shopping cart and pulled his tattered coat over his head making strange "whirring" noises.
Lemmon was then asked if he thought the hiring of Stan was a mistake.
"Are you kidding me? Name a better coach? This team needs charachter, and that's what I'm giving them with Stan. No, for this team to turn around, Weekes needs to turn around. Ty Conklin is better than he is, CONKLIN. What a joke! I'm prepared to lose 5 more in a row if it gets the message to Weekes that I won't tolerate this anymore."
In recent game injuries have started to take their toll on the Flyers, when Lemmon was asked about this he simply replied with "Injuries are a part of the game, does, it hurt to lose your top two centres, you bet your ass it does. Does it hurt to lose 3 defensemen? You bet your ass it does, but I refuse to blame this on injuries. I'm laying blame solely on Weekes. He's gets his ass in gear or he gets his ass a job somewhere else."
At that point Lemmon put on his cape and stormed out of the conference room throwing chairs out of his way as he left.
After the todays practice, Kevin Weekes was asked to comment on his performande of late. After repeated questioning he finally blurted out "I stink! What else is there to say, I've got no confidence in my game, my GM hates me and my teammates are getting furious with me. What do you want me to say?" When asked what he thinks about being given the next five starts regardless of how he performs or how he feels he simply said "Well, I guess I'll try to win all those games and turn my season around." Many are thinking this is very unlikely, and that the Flyers will not come out of the next five games in very good shape at all.
The Flyers today recalled forward Jay McClement from the AHL to replace the injured Eric Lindros, who is currently listed as day to day, along with defenseman Roman Hamrlik who is expected to make his return in the near future. Steven Reinprecht is still out another week or so and defensman Nick Shultz has been taken off of IR and is expected to play in tomorrows game versus the Flames.
