Default How does this happen to a vehicle?

With today's weather, I parked my car in a LRT lot for about 1 hr. 45 minutes. I come back and notice that all my windows are covered in frost. I look around and see that I'm the only car whose windows are iced up. Okay...

I get inside, start it up, get the ice scraper, go outside and then realize, all the frost is on the INSIDE of the vehicle!!! WTF?

How does this happen, exactly? Was a window or door slightly ajar? Is there a crack somewhere that needs investigating? This has never happened before with any other Calgary weather.

Your heater core might be going (almost gone). Do you smell antifreeze?

I remember driving my blazer when the heater core went. Driving down southland drive and I can't see anything. My buddy goes "hey man, there's some green stuff all over my shoes here".

I had this happen to me before. I had an old 1980 Chev Malibu. It was nice and toasty warm in my car and when I got out of the car I must've bumped the window opener, because the window was cracked open just enough. I was gone for probably 2-3 hours. When I came back I had to scrape everything on the inside. The windows, the rear view mirror, and even the speedometer.

This has happened to me too. My door doesn't close 100% properly unless I push it fairly hard. It stays open just enough (a small crack where the window meets the frame) so that the inside will freeze. Very annoying if I forget to check that the door is closed completely.

Happened to me this morning. Usually it happens once my vehicle warms up just enough to start melting snow inside the car and increasing the humidity. Normally the inside of the glass isn't cold enough to freeze the condensation/fog, but with this weather the inside of the glass is colder than usual. If this happens after you park, it's probably because you were running the defroster which also acts to dry the air. Once you turn that off, the humidity increases, condensates and then crystallizes.

Coles notes: Keep the inside of the car snow/moisture free and run defroster (air conditioner) as much as possible to decrease humidity. Don't track more snow inside the car.

Mmmm, yummy. Nothing like frozen hockey sweat on the windows.

I'm surprised no one has stated the obvious. A homeless couple broke in and made love in your car. The frozen stuff is their sweat frozen to your windows. Yup, that's what happened.

Thanks for the replies. No antifreeze smell so I'm sure it's just a build up of humidity. I tend to run the heat or defog more than the defroster so that may be it.

Somethings to look over...
-plugged heater system preventing adequate airflow.
-stuck thermostat preventing engine from reaching operating temperature, check your temperature guage if you have one.
-temperature control not working properly.

These are some other things to look at if you can.
