Saw this movie the other night.
In my esteem, an overlong and overdry political/religious allegory rounded out by superb acting (Day Lewis especially, obviously), great cinematography (the same Roger Deakins who is competing against himself for an Oscar in this category for No Country) and an intriguing musical score (by Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood).
Director PT Anderson made a name for himself with his Robert Altman-esque ensemble dramas Boogie Nights and Magnolia, and he strays from that format here, much to his disadvantage. There Will Be Blood is sparsely populated and missing the sometimes over-the-top style that worked so well with his other films; this film is more like something Stanley Kubrick might have done, and done better.
Don't get me wrong, an interesting movie to watch and I doubt there is a more powerhouse performance in 2007 than Day Lewis, but I can't imagine watching this again, or ranking it as highly as many others have.
