Best Current Live Bands?
What are some of the best groups touring the world right now......meaning they aren't retired musicians.
If Zeppelin continues to tour then obviously they're at the top with the likes of the Rolling Stones....but what are some of the best live bands touring today in your opinions?
Some personal favorites of mine are the White Stripes, the Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam and My Morning Jacket. I also really enjoy the Foo Fighters live. I would kill to see Radiohead and would have loved to see Rage Against the Machine on their latest tour.

I saw the legendary shack shakers here a few months back and thought they put on a really good show..
Based purely on show, Gwar was pretty fun...
I've heard Gogo bordello was pretty good live, anyone here seen em??
Dropkick Murphy's put on a pretty fun show, and I saw death by stereo live on new years at the castle and they always put on a good show...

Tool was a memorable concert. Had Aenema stuck in my head for months.
I'm not a huge fan, but NIN really impressed me (the last time they (he) hit Calgary).

I saw Gogol Bordello live a few years ago - insane show. The singer is a maniac. Definitely recommend seeing them if you get the chance.
I'd love to see Arcade Fire in concert, myself. Any footage I've seen is great.

Blue Rodeo is always far superior live then on CD. One of the best live bands around without a doubt.
The Hip are good even if I don't particularly care for their latest material.
King's X are typically very very good live.
Dream Theater is usually amazing live.
I've seen Queensryche a few times and they are hit and miss...well really Geoff Tate is hit or miss. When he is one it's an amazing show.

For me, in order, I think:
The Pixies (seen them twice)
The Tragically Hip (seen them about five or six times)
U2 (seen them twice)

I saw Tool at a festival last year for the first time, and I have to say the act that was on before them--Muse--really stole the show. Muse is great live.
I've had tickets to NIN twice, once for Ottawa and once for Sydney, and both times the show was cancelled because Trent Reznor lost his voice.

I'm going on the 22nd--and I am stoked. I also have got Iron + Wine, Spoon, and hopefully Jens Lekman and Feist coming up as well.

Saw Neil Young a couple of weeks ago. Probably the best live show I've ever been too....and not because it had any fancy effects.

Hands down by far the best group to see live is Rush.
Just saw them in August for about the 5th time since I was a kid.
They just put on an amazing amazing show.
So happy they are going to tour some more, this year, they are coming back my way again and I will definitely go again.

I know no one here likes em, because you are all a bunch of popular music snobs, but Linkin Park is by far my favorite band to see live. Seen them 5 times and each time, they improve. Can't wait for them to come around my way touring their new stuff. Chester has an impressive voice in concert and the guys make a show what it should be.....FUN

The Hip (been to about 30 shows)
Pearl Jam (sadly only seen them twice)
Metalica (only once but it was awesome and I'm not a huge fan)
The Tea Party are good when they play stuff from their first three albums, the rest of their stuff is junk.
Cypress Hill (not sure if they are still touring, but they were fantastic, experience may have been enhanced by weed)
Worst:
Our Lady Peace - I like them on the radio, but Raine Maida can not sing live.
The Tea Party - any of their new whiny crap is awful

I would say Tool put on a helluva show when I saw them at Coachella in '06. NIN were pretty good, and Metallica was one of the best high energy shows I've been to.
Alexisonfire...Well, they're just full of power and I love it. I will go back numerous times.
However if you want the best, and I mean the best live show, you have to go see Daft Punk live. Sure, they'll never come to Calgary, but from what I've heard these guys are just ridiculous live.

If you're looking for a standard areana type show, I'd say most are pretty much the same.
However The Foo Fighters can do ONE HELL of an arena show.
However, if you're looking for a really great live performance (not just lights, and fireworks), then easily the two best bands I've ever seen are:
The Supersuckers
and
The Reverend Horton Heat
Both are pretty much the definition of "Working Band", and man do they do great live shows.
