Who should light the 2010 Olympic flame?

We've come up with a list of prominent Canadians who may be considered for 2010. These include former Olympians Nancy Greene, Barbara Ann Scott, Gaetan Boucher, Cindy Klassen, Marc Gagnon, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky and Cassie Campbell. Also on our list is a group of Canadians who have left a lasting legacy to this country such as Rick Hansen, Paul Henderson, David Suzuki and Betty Fox.

Steve Moore , or perhaps Marc Emery using an extra long joint of BC bud
in all seriousness, I like the the past two olympic games in Canada had amateur athletes rather than famous Canadian athletes; hope they do the same again

If he's still playing and on the Men's hockey team in 2010, i'd love to see Joe Sakic do it. A BC boy and a class act.

I think the captain of team Canada would be sufficient.

I think it'd be neat if Iggy did it, passing the Olympic torch from Calgary to Vancouver Canada wise.
I dunno

The problem is pro NHL players don't really represent what the olympics are really about - which is the best in amateur sport.
That should be kept in mind.
If Suzuki does it, that would be an absolute travesty.

David Suzuki? Why on earth would he light the torch?
Good point Jiri on the NHLers I didn't really think about that. Thinking back to Salt Lake they had the 1980 USA Hockey team. That was neat. Does canada have a story similar to that in importance? I personally don't know.

If Suzuki lit the torch I would laugh for days.
After that they'd have to find some footage of him dancing around those Arabian Oilfires just to complete the collection.
Honestly, it'll probably end up being the Mayor of Vancouver or the President of VanOC.

When the top athletes get together to compete, there's nothing amateur about it. Would Nancy Greene, Bodi Miller, Pierre Lueders, Cindy Klassen, Donovan Bailey consider themselves amateurs? Just because NBA, NHL, MLB players make boatloads of money, it seems as though there is an asterix applied to their Olympic achievements.
Olympic amateurism regulations have been abandoned for awhile now. No one would ever pay to see Fotze and KevanGuy on a beach Volleyball team.
I think t would be interesting to use some footage of Terry Fox along with some CG magic to have him light the flame. It would be symbolic for many reasons especially since the games will be on Canada's west coast.

I already said earlier that I vote Sakic and some people agreed.
However, not that a celebrity would get to start the flame, but who are celebrities from BC? Michael J. Fox, Nelly Furtado, Pamela Anderson...who else? (I don't think this will happen nor should it, but just curious who else is from BC?)
