I saw this walking on 8th ave on the way to Flames Central last night and thought it was interesting. Given the documented high ratio of geeks in these parts, I thought it might be of interest:

Science Cafe is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or pint of beer, you can learn about the latest ideas and issues in science and technology in an informal setting. It’s not a lecture! It’s a place for group discussion and audience involvement is the most important ingredient. Science Café is a global phenomenon, and in Calgary it is hosted by TELUS World of Science - Calgary and the University of Calgary. It is held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Unicorn Pub on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September to November and January to May. Plans are also in the works for Darwin Day in February. I'll let you know when and where the local celebrations will be. Next year is the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth.

Interesting. I remember helping toss around grassroot ideas for this 'Science Cafe' when i worked there a couple years ago.
