Default Closing Race City?

apparently the city isn't going to renew the lease for Race City Motorsport Park.
I don't live in Calgary anymore but it seems a shame to shut er down in such a car crazed City. When we tell the kids to take it to the track, well it'll be nothin but empty words.
Here's a petition if anyone wants to sign.

The city is supposed to find a new home for racecity.. I was a lil upset upon hearing this since I don't know when that would happen or who would put up the money to pave the road course again.. Personally I think they should move the dump elsewhere rather than destroy the track.. Its going to lead to more street racing if people lose the friday night drags..

About time.

Honestly the worst drag track in western Canada hands down. Good on the city for closing it, the owners dont even pay out for VHT on Secret Street nights and the damn track has freaking ruts in it.

Maybe they'll open it somewhere else and actually take care of it.

I raced my car on it once and never went back. Its bad when Bud Park in Edmonton is immensely superior.

They re-paved the drag strip last spring so I'm not sure what your talking about.. The road course is rough as hell but who can afford to pave all that track..? What they really need is some decent sponsorship or a wealthy owner.. I also fail to see how having no track would be better than the one we have..

It's not closing, it's moving. They just need to find a place to move to.

Locke,
Forgive me if I missed it in the rules of CP, But I'm pretty sure it is not mandatory to post in every thread even if you have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps I'm wrong.

As much as its my own fault for moving nearby without realizing it, I will be glad to know they are moving. In the summer the noise often wakes me up on weekends; especially if I have my windows open.

The worst is Sundays; where the noise by-laws say they can't start until 9:00. but some days they were going at 8:00.

They could also be wanting to move so they are once again out of town; that way they don't have to worry about noise bylaws.

There was a bit about it on the news the other night. They don't want to move, they are being pushed out.

They plan on running things "as is" until October, 2009, so you have a couple more summers of fun.

They repaved the first 300 feet so the cars could hook, not the whole thing.

I'm not saying no track, I'm saying a good track. Somewhere thats not earmarked as a future landfill site.

If you didnt like the noise living by it, your gonna hate the smell.

I was under the impression it was the entire thing.. I still think $20 a week to race as many times as you want is a good deal.. I certainly don't expect much more for that kind of cost.. Ideally they should rebuild the track elsewhere but have it open for more events so it doesnt fall into disrepair..

The price is very reasonable, theres no arguing with that. The only time you can really find complaint is in the summer when you go and the place is so packed that you can only get in 1 or 2 runs.

Not to mention the eons to get past tech.

Do you mean car or time?

I run a Mustang with a 347. I went once and pulled a 13.3 spinning most of the way on 17's with street tires.

I hadn't even heard the words "Race City Speedway" in 10+ years since before I read this thread. I'm a little suprised that it has been operating this long. Is it busy at all? Do people still go? Anything other than locals racing their cars go on there?
