My brother saw him on a park bench in Reykjavik a year and a half ago--he'd been living in Iceland for some time, I guess.

I guess you have to respect his chess achievements, but he was in other respects a very hateful person, a huge anti-semite and probably a little crazy. His comments after 9/11 were particularly unfortunate.
