I won't argue the assertion that Cosby is a comedy legend, but I spent $200 on two tickets to go see him perform with an ex-girlfriend of mine back in 2003 or 2004, and he was TERRIBLE.
No opening acts, Bill came out, sat down on his stool, told
maybe 5 extended jokes that all had a punchline that went something like this:
(say with your best jello pudding voice) "...and then I said, 'that's why you wash your hands before dinner!'"
And of course everybody 55 and over burst out laughing. My g/f and I just sat there with blank looks on our faces, thinking "that was what all that buildup was for?"
I was literally right there with the guy. Leaning forward in my seat, hanging on his every word, hoping he would at least make me crack a smile. Nothing. At all. And I'm dead serious. Never left a show so disappointed in my life. I now urge people 40 and under NOT to go see him.
Maybe it's years of exposure to Tom Green, Dave Chappelle, David Cross, and Kenny vs. Spenny, I dunno. But I still find classic comedy routines and comedians funny, as long as their stuff is good, so that's probably not it.
Anyways, I've seen Carlin too and he kicked some serious ass. I mean stand up and applaud for 5 solid minutes ass. Worth the money if you're thinking about going, that's for damn sure!
