Default Hard drive dead - Bell 5100 receiver.

So the hard drive is dead in my old Bell 5100 receiver. I have a new HD pvr, so I don't really care that it doesn't record (although, it would be nice to record shows for the kid on it). The annoying part, however, is that it appears the channel guide uses the hdd somehow, because everytime I press guide, I get an error about the drive and I can only see the next 30 minutes of programming.

So, here is the question. Has anyone replaced the hard drive on one of these units themselves? If so, what kind of drive to I need , what size can I put in, and is there anything else I should be concerened about? Will the drive be automatically formatted, or is this whole thing just too much trouble?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

There was a big long thread on DHC about replacing the HD on a 5X00.

Check out these threads to start with:

I can't find the actual thread, but I only spent 2 minutes looking.
