Default Shaw still charging 6% GST

Just looked at my account history on Shaw and noticed they have continued to charge the 6% GST on my account for this month rather then the 5% the GST has been dropped to.

Anyone else notice the same on their bill?

They actually called me about that and let me know that there would be a 31 cent credit on my account.

I think you get 6% since the car was financed at the pre GST drop rate.

Interesting when did they call you about it? Looked at my account history and there is no credit currently.

A bit off topic but the wife and I were at Ikea to take in their 50% Off Sale where lot's of things are 50% off. There was a sign in the elevator advertising that Ikea would be charging only 5% GST starting Jan 1. The sign made it sound like a big deal.

Same thing happened when we went from 7 to 6%.

The GST gets charged at invoice date; not when you receive your goods. So if you went into a store on December 27th and bought a fridge to be delivered on January 3rd, you would still have paid the 6% GST.

Hardly surprising, these adjustments to billing systems almost never go smoothly. Rest assured you will eventually get charged the right rate and credited for any discrepancy.

It can also work in reverse. If you performed services in December, but aren't billing for them in January, the new rate applies.
