Eventually, she asked to see Garrison's penis; he unzipped his pants and complied.

He's a criminal for doing what EVERY other guy on the planet would do?

The sunbathing woman is not affiliated with the police department and she was not asked to take part in the sting operation, according to a spokesperson for the department.

I'm all for this guy being charged then. This wasn't pure entrapment if the woman did not know she was involved. Had they told the woman to do this on purpose... I'd have to say I'm against it.

Brutal police entrapment.
How many officers could be invesitaging real crimes instead of playing high-school drama class on the transit platform?

What does this accomplish though?
If two people have consensual sex in a public place how does that link them to " stopping the criminally minded before they commit worse offenses" as the police claim the point of this sting is? That's essentially all this is if the woman isn't involved with the police is any form.

Why is that one of the most common against about police activities? What do you and others want, all cops out trying to solve homicides? Different officers do different types of work, they can't all be assigned to the most high level cases. Chances are probably pretty good that some sort of sex crimes unit was involved here, and even if it wasn't, who cares?

Not every guy.
I can't believe the cops would do this. I'm no lawyer, but I don't see this surviving a court case. When he wins his case, I hope that guy sues the police.

Wow this to me really is true entrapment.
Its like putting a double fudge cake in front of a fat guy on a diet, of course he's going to eat it.
This woman isn't working for the police department. She asked him to drop trow in a public place while sunbathing topless. Shouldn't she be charged with public lewdness as well?

Now I'm going to have to think twice about whipping out my penis in public when a strange women asks to see it? Damn it!
I think the more important question should be asked of the police department before this guy goes to trial.
Don't they have something better to do? Robbery, Drugs, Gangs, so on...

Not a very well penned article really. It fails to define a "sting" operation and to differentiate it from an "undercover" operation. The arrest of the guy in the park is perfectly appropriate - the woman was not a police agent, and the police were not using her to target or entrap anyone. The guy appears to have been very, very, unfortunate, but them's the breaks - he did exactly what the police were attempting to stop: lewd behaviour in a public area.
By contrast, further along in the article, operation Lucky Bag sounds terrible. From my understanding of that, the police leave an expensive article sitting in a public subway, and then arrest whoever picks it up. If I were prosecuting such an arrest, I'd throw it out before I'd even finished reading the police report. I think any good samaritan who saw an iPod or something similar, sitting, apparently unused, on public transit, would pick it up. I know I would. That way I would prevent someone who wouldn't turn it in to the police from picking it up.
Mind you, given the article, I wouldn't be surprised if the writer misunderstood that last operation or just communicated it badly.

I have to ask again though, shouldn't the woman be charged as well. She initiated the sexual situation and basically asked for a sexual favor.

I don't really think it's entrapment, since they were not exclusively trying to bust this guy and had arranged for bait.
This guy's daily walk by the lake was turning into a "Dear Hustler" until a sting op nabbed him.
Just a couple issues with the article here...
"Seconds later, undercover police officers pulled up in a van and arrested Garrison; he was later charged with public indecency, a misdemeanor, based on video footage taken by cops who were targeting men having sex or masturbating in the park. While topless sunbathing is legal in the city's parks, exposing more than that is against the law."
K, first off, are the federales targeting men having sex with other men, or just men involved in a impromptu hetero fling by the lake?
Second, are there THAT many men tuggin the weasel in the park that it necessitates the need for a undercover task force?
I don't think the cops are guilty of entrapment, though you gotta feel bad for the victim of the most organized cack block in human history.

I want them doing something other than this bull. Visiting schools talking about the danger of doing drugs to a bunch of grade schoolers to me does a lot more to pre-empt crime than...THIS!

This is one of the dumbest things I've heard of this year. Any red blooded male in the world would take their junk out if an attractive half naked woman asked to see it. What the hell were these dumb cops expecting?

What's the difference?
Anyway, is anyone else surprised that they allow topless "sunbathing" in city parks in Ohio?
I hate to crack out the old "he was breaking the law" routine so favored by our resident hens, but, well, he was breaking the law, and I ain't got nothing against laws that forbid whacking off in the park.

Big difference between polishing the old bed knob, or shaking hands with the weasel and a hot top less girl telling you to whip out the satchel charge. I'm pretty sure that 7 out of 10 guys are going to risk the fine and community service.
The other three are busy doing the self high five behind the bushes.
