what kind of other appliances do you have because believe it or not, the stainless between difference appliances manufacturers is different. We just bought all new appliances and went with a Kenmore Elite. Very quite does a great job and has many different setting for pots, pans, etc. The stainless is nice as well because it doesn't streak or leave finger prints as bad as some other stainless. We bought at Sears and couldn't have asked for better delivery and sales service

We as well just finished a huge renovation and got all new appliances.

I am on my second Miele dishwasher, just love them. Mine is stainless steel inside and outside, has the third level rack for cutlery. Extremely quiet, think Miele and Bosch are the quietest out there. And it also has the hidden controls on top the door, so front is just sleek stainless steel, nothing else.

I am also on a second downdraft unit. I had a 36" Thermador cooktop unit before, 4 burners, griddle etc in the middle, came with downdraft unit as well, had the whole unit for 18 years, was still working, extremely efficient.

Now I have a 6 burner Viking induction unit and since I was so pleased with my former Thermador downdraft unit, went with them again. The new ones are higher now and you can get them in various strength motors. I think you would need to clear at least 650 ccf or whatever they call those units, for it to be effective. Anyhow, the downdraft units can be mounted various ways. If you are mounting by a wall, you can vent them up through the roof or down through the floor. If you are mounting them in an island, such as mine, you can vent them down through the floor and then out with venting like a dryer. And you can vent them with motor inside the house or outside the house. My motor is outside, so the unit is very very quiet. If you want the motor outside, it will depend on whether your whole house is developed or not. It is certainly easier to put in such a configuration in the building stages of a house, not sure how it would work with a reno. But putting the motor inside, under the venting unit is fine too. It will be no louder than any other venting unit out there if mounted inside.

The only thing that I can recommend is to steer clear of Fridgidaire. From personal experience (very recent) and conversations with two different appliance repairmen.

Fridgidaire + water do not mix unless you like handwashing your stuff after you finish a load in the dishwasher.

I would like to note that it'd be best to stay away from Fridgidaire ranges and fridges as well, however will leave my rant for another day.

Been quite happy with my Bosch - super quiet, although watch your installation as a loop for the hosing seems to be important to avoid stagnant water draining back. Good value for the money.

yeah, I can second that Frigidaire dishwashers suck. I just replaced one. I think I might spend a little more next time (bought an Asana) as my new one is pretty loud. At least it cleans well, though.

LG Dishwasher - fantastic item.

It is sooooo quiet, you can have it running, be talking to someone, and they wouldn't know it is even on.

Also, it has it's own version of a garberator (sp?) so you technically don't even have to rinse before throwing them in.

LG makes fantastic appliances.

Bosch is what we have now, and only because I didn't want to pop for the Miele. Both are awesome.

I have not rinsed in years, isn't that what a dishwasher is for? I of course scrape off excess stuff before I put in the dishwasher. The only type of things I might pay attention to are pots that rice, pasta or potatoes have been cooked in.

Disagree here...

I've has a Frigidare in my kitchen for almost four years now.

Low end model I paid about 400 for at the Brick.

No problems to date at all. A little noisy but what do you expect for 400 bucks.....

I forgot that there is something different that has to be done with the initial installation of a Miele dishwasher. Not sure exactly what, I think the drain hose is suspended higher or looped different, but don't quote me on that. The dishwasher manual will tell you what it is. When I upgraded to my first Miele, I had an installer come out and attend to it. Now with the second Miele I have, just was a matter of removing old one and plugging in the new one.

Yup. And I have not rinsed prior to getting my Miele either. Before that had 2 Inglis models, never rinsed with them either. Like I said, might pay attention to some of the pots, depending on what you have cooked in them.

And I dont know what it is about a Miele either, they do such a good job washing, but they dont dump over plastics either. Before you would have to be careful in anchoring your plastic containers or fold down the dividers to keep them in place, not anymore. Just put the plastics in, turn on the dishwasher, when I open the door upon completion, they are in their proper place.

Miele no longer has the drying element in the bottom of the dishwasher either, but I have noticed most models are going away from that now. So your plastics never melt, even if put on the bottom shelf.

I have a Miele stainless dishwasher and I recommend it. It is very quiet and they say you don't have to rinse the dishes off beforehand. I mostly still do out of habit but my wife never does anymore and the dishes come out great.

We just got a Bosch about a month ago and it is great. A little louder than we thought/expecting but it is still ALOT quieter than our old one. We can talk right in front of it and have to yell. Nice model. Not sure how it drys as there is no element on the bottom but it drys good.

Best you can buy is Miele. No pre-rinsing required.

Bosch is a slight step down, but still great.

PM me if you have specific questions.

I guess our experiences are on polar opposites, our higher end dishwasher leaves residue on our dishes and that is presuming that it even gets to the stuck on food in the first place. (Tried a variety of detergents/agents)

Our glass top range has marks on the heating surface that even the technician can't distinguish and our fridge has a motor so loud that it sounds as though you're idling your car.

I suppose I just have the mis-fortune of getting 3 lemons however it has been echoed to me that for a little bit more money up front, I'd have been happier with other brands. My saving grace is that the Trail technicians have put in replacement parts for me however what will happen when the products are outside of the warranty period?

As an after thought, maybe something happened with the products in the last four years??? Just my two cents is all.

Avoid mogwai too. They're cute and eager to please, but get them near water and it's bad news.
