Default WTB Snowsweeper - Info Please!!!

My dad's 60th b-day was this year... His house is a corner lot... I cringe when it snows.

What I'm looking for is one of those commercial grade sweepers. The reason I specifically want one of those is because regular snow throwers don't do a good job on snow that has already been walked on. Dad gets out of bed around 830 daily and by then quite a few people have compacted the snow on his walk.

So all advice is appreciated. I'm looking to spend up to $1,500 for a good machine. Help!

if he happens to have a john deere garden tractor, i can vouch for this being a quality product: http://www.deere.com/en_US/ProductCa...r=0140LV&tM=HO

works very well, though has to be a garden tractor with PTO.

It is important to note that sweepers are ineffective on more than 2-3 inches of snow.

Thanks for the replies so far... Yeah, no tractor. It's just an estate home on a corner lot, so the sidewalk is pretty long. In fact, I just looked it up and it's 60 meters long. That equals 200 feet.
An old, full sized lot in the inner city would have 50' of frontage. An infill, 25'. Most suburban homes are around 35' unless you're on a corner lot.
So yeah, I really don't like my 60 y/o dad shovelling 200' of snow.

The sweeper is the best option I think. I figure it will remove the snow that has been packed down on any given morning by regular foot traffic. As long as it is maintained of course.

I'm not sold on the auger type (as pictured above) because I've never seen them in action. I have seen the sweepers go and they work well. Even if there's a bit left over afterward, a little scraping is no biggie. He's not incapable of snow shovelling, I just don't want snow shovelling to be the death of him...

For anyone that cares... I ended up buying this....

I dealt with Jed's Equipment in Fairview. Cost me $927 altogether. I didn't bother haggling so if you got it cheaper, please don't tell me.

Yeah, after alot of investigation, I determined that this was the best machine for my price range. All I need is for some damn snow to fly so that I can test it out. And by 'me', I mean my stepmom calling me to say that it worked great and dad is inside listening to Rush Limbaugh and not having a heart attack on the sidewalk. Because, you know, if the liberals had their way, there'd be no snowblowers. Damn tree-hugging hippies.

Are they saying "Boo"? No. They're saying.... "Boo-urns".

Thanks Fotze. If you ever need some swearwords in Italian, Polish or Tagalog... I'll hook you up....

So you know what you've done by buying that fancy machine. Your dad's gonna finish his 200' and keep on going until the whole block is done. Then he's going to put it in his car and do all the neighborhood rinks.
