They released the teams this year, only one European team, no U.S. teams and no Eastern Canadian clubs. They must have had troubles recruiting teams this year.

If I remember correctly the Eastern clubs have some other tournament closer to home or some such other excuse. Euro's according to the paper are cash strapped. Alaska is apparently playing but no teams south of the border. Sheesh nope to Alaska. Too bad as that really kills off some of the atmosphere!!

A lot of the U.S. clubs are upset that they cant take their overage kids. That knocked out teams like Detroit Little Caesars/Honeybaked as well as Team Illinois and Shattuck's

it's a midget tournament, do they honestly expect to be able to bring those players? i still think this tourney is going to be great, love midget hockey.

This has been coming for a couple of years, the major issues being that the US teams 'midget' teams have kids a year older than the ones here in Canada, so given that why would you come with only half a team?

USA Hockey has a different definition of the Midget age group than Hockey Canada does. The Americans are just pouting because they are expected to play a Canadian tournament under Canadian rules.

Shame there is so little foreign representation though. That being said, I won't miss the Russians. They were just embarrassing last year.

Guess I should have read the rosters before commenting. The Russian national diving team is the Euro squad. Shame. I always liked seeing the Swedes here. Especially Mr. Backlund, who won this thing three years ago.

I went to see No Country for old Men yesterday at Eu Claire and one of the teams from Edmonton was there. It was hilarious to see their rookie initiation where they made them stand up in the front of the theater to sing I'm a little tea pot just before the movie. I recorded it on my phone but poor lighting made the video unwatchable, so I'm sorry I can't post it.

Been spending a lot of time at Max Bell as a 50/50 sales supervisor this year. Its amazing how different an event like this is on the inside than it is in the stands.

Overall, there have been some very good games, but I'm not sure anyone can topple the Russians this year. Maybe the Vancouver NW Giants or Calgary Buffaloes, but I doubt it.

For the Calgary teams:
- Buffaloes / Blazers: Win and in game. Blazers need win to move on. Buffs may be in if they tie, but need win to guarantee position.
- UFA Bisons / Thompson Blazers: UFA needs win to guarantee they'll move on.
- Northstars / Trojans: Northstars need win to move on. Tisdale same position as Buffs.
- Flames / Cariboo Cougars: Flames need win to move on
- Royals / Prince Albert Mintos: Royals need win to move on. PA probably in, but need tie or win to virtually guarantee it.

A win wont guarantee the Flames a wild card. First tiebreaker, I believe, is record against pool winner. With a potential logjam at 6 points for the wild card, the Flames might be SOL. By the same token, a tie *should* get the Buffaloes in, since they tied Vancouver.

The Royals can definitely take the Mintos if they play well.

The Bisons shouldn't have an issue with Thompson... and thank goodness they are playing at Centennial. Their fans spend waaaaay too much money on 50/50 tickets.

UFA fans are CRAZY! You should see their home games. It's the main attraction in Strathmore.

I can't believe that the Mac's Tournament hasn't put the playoff matchups on their website. Shame on them.

Buffaloes beat the Northstars (2-1)
Russia destroyed the Trojans (8-2 was the last score I heard)

Giants beat UFA 7-2, Russia squeeked past the Buffaloes 2-1.

Russia-Vancouver final. This is one time I can get behind the pot-smoking hippies.

Notre Dame finally lost on the girls side. Red Deer vs. a Saskatchewan team in the girls final.

It should have been the final. Vancouver didn't have a prayer today. Probably the worst final in Mac's history. 7-0 final, but Russia was up 6-0 by the 14 minute mark, and coasted the rest of the way.
