Chinook Music World - 40% - 60% Off
So, Music World in Chinook is closing out, Northland too IIRC. Anyways, everything is at least 40% off. Just stopped by. Not a bad selection left. Just picked up the latest Foo Fighters, the Colts Superbowl DVD and a WWE DVD on the history of the Intercontental Title for just over $30.
The place is starting to look a little picked over, and good luck trying to find a DVD or CD that's not a new release. But still, to get 40% off... that's better than a kick in the pants.
And no, I don't work for Music World... thought I'd give a heads up to the uninformed.

I don't think so, recent stuff I've read seem to imply that CD sales are actually up. It could just be a case of one company dominating and another unable to compete.

Music World always seemed to have higher prices, even on their new release promotional pricing. I think it's tough for them to compete with a WalMart or a Future Shop who tries to get you in the door with a almost at cost price so that you walk out with an above cost DVD player or TV.
Downloading may have something to do with it, but I doubt it's the main catalist here.
And here's some proof: http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2007/1...d.html?ref=rss
Looks like a little of column A, a little of column B... but nothing about illegal downloads.

Well, not just illegal downloads, but the likes of iTunes as well. Why drive to the store for a $15 CD when I can download the two songs I want for $3. (or whatever it costs.)

40-60% off? so what your saying is that they are still more expensive then the A&Bs and the Best Buys.
Is it any wonder that they can't compete?

for the most part! they were all over the place in the 50's...maybe a bad example...but since i wasnt around back in whenever...oh wait...your local blacksmith shops are now gone....thanks to the car? Better?
Honestly i have no problem with the crumbling of the music industry, they have held consumers hostage for too long...and we have forced a change of thinking for most at least....and the flip side, they have held artists hostage too...artist can now go it on their own thanks to the net...the industry needed a shakeup and its happening..

Unfortunatly, Music World is not part of the music industry. I am actually surprised they are still around. They were always in some dark corner of the mall and had ridiculous prices.
But, the fewer CDs sold the better.
