Where to report a possible stolen car?
There is a white Dodge Ram at the end of my street. It has been in the same spot for quite a while. It looks kind of like a work truck - crew cab, bunch of stuff in the box. One of the back windows had been broken at some time in the past and fixed with plastic and tuck tape. But I noticed a week ago the plastic had been ripped and is blowing in the wind. The door behind the driver's door is also dinged.
Heck it may be someone in the area, but since it hasn't moved in a couple weeks and now has snow blowing in the back window, I don't know who would just leave it there.
I tried calling 311, they said it was a parking enforcement issue, parking enforcement forwarded me to another number, and that number said the vehicle wasn't parked illegally so it wasn't their issue.
So I tried the non-emergency police number but the closest option ended up saying to call the parking enforcement number again.
So, before I get on the merry-go-round again, does anyone know the correct number/option to actually report this?

Hitting '0' or '00' during those annoying automated voice menus frequently forwards your call to a real person. You could always try that.

Phone the police and give thenm the license plate number. They could run it through their computer to see if said vehicle was reported stolen. Did something like this a few years back.

I tried, and the non-emergency options (if it is following up on a robbery, press 3; if you car has been stolen, press 3, if.....) didn't cover this.
I'll probably do what MarchHare suggests and just pound on buttons to get a person I can ask.

Dont forget to demand a new phone!! I hate that non-emergency line. If it isnt an emergency they dont wanna hear about it.
Last winter I called it to inform the police that there was a guy walking down the street " Loser Drunk"!! This guy was loaded, just walking down the street with no idea WTF was happening around him, stumbling and swearing at noone in particular. So, hes not doing anything fantastically dangerous, but something could happen to him so I called 911.
They were summarily furious and told me to call the non-emergency line at risk of charges being laid against me for frivolous use of the emergency line.
WTF? Its not like I drunken dialed them or was making a prank call or anything.
Anyways, I call the non-emergency line, an lo and behold, while I was on hold (for like 15 damn minutes) buddy walked into an intersection and got smoked by a cab.
At this point I hung up and called 911 and stuck around until the ambulance got there. Add to that that the EMT lady put the stretcher on the ground and there is a slight hill so the damn thing starts rolling away. Here I am, in -20 weather holding a stretcher in the middle of an intersection with hosed-guy bleeding everywhere.
Anyways, by the time they get this guy in the ambulance I ask the EMT where to call about the non-emergency line, because this seriously could have been avoided.
It was fantastic. I had such a good time I try and do it every other month.

Go up to the truck and copy the VIN onto a piece of paper. Should be visible through the windshield near the dash.
Then go to this website and enter the VIN. http://www.cpic-cipc.ca/English/inde...01196228132816
If it has been reported stolen it should come up positive.

Call your alderman's office or send him an email.
Tell him theres an abandonned car sitting on your street and neither the city nor police will do anything about and keep passing the buck.
Theyll take care of it for you.

No run around today (non-emergency number).
Apparently it is someone who lives in the area.
Well, they have a pretty snowy backseat.
Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW, it is still there. Hasn't moved. Torn plastic still blowing in the wind. Flat tire on the rear passenger side.

pretty sure you're not allowed to leave your car on the street for that long. so if it really bothers you call bylaw enforcement.

For what its worth...if you ever have to phone 266-1234...press 0 when the automated voice comes on and you'll get put straight through to an officer.

When I lived over in Coach Hill I used to park my work van in the same spot every day. Over the holidays it didnt move for about a week cause I was on vacation. When I came back I had a warning from the city to move it. I believe it was left as a 'ticket' on the van, it was about 7 years ago though, so not positive how they told me to move it.

Just tried to look up the by-law but couldn't find it. Basically if the vehicle is not a work vehicle you can park it within ~100 metres of your house for as long as you want and there's nothing anybody else can do about it; as long as the vehicle is insured, registered, and in running condition.

It says it is considered abandoned if left more than 72 hours without permission from the owner of the property it is parked on. $200 fine apparently.
